Just made the switch from movie maker to premiere elements 7. I usually combine movie clips and stills in my productions. What I want to do is transition one still photo into the next still photo(kind of a slow fade/blend thing). In Movie maker it is very easy you just over lap the start of second picture with the end of the first picture in the timeline. Can I do the same thing in Premiere? Someone told me that I have to do this type of stuff in slide show section of photoshop then import that into premiere-i hope that is not true.

All you do differently in Premiere Elements is to add a transition between the images, by dragging the transition between the two, not too difficult. It also gives you a lot of control as to how the transition looks and works, starting with a simple cross dissolve is the best idea.

There are lots of free tutorials on Premiere Elements at http://muvipix.com/products.php?subcat_id=44
and

as well as articles and tips here

Check them out I am sure they will be of great help to you :)

I am away from my main computer right now. I will be back soon with some specifics on what you want to do.

You need not have to invoke Photoshop Elements to get the job done.

To be continued.....

tmnader,

You need explore Premiere Elements 7 transitions. When you click on the Premiere Elements 7 Help, you can access the PDF Help file for the program. It has a great section on "applying transitions" which includes graphics to aid in understanding what is going on.

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/7.0/WS09e4b3c48f3a79fc19b622510385d4355c-7e6c.html

When you are in the Edit Mode (Orange Tab), you will see the Transitions Tab in the next row below where it says Edit. Clicking on the Transitions Tab opens the view of the video, audio transitions. Although the Sceneline View is inviting, I would suggest that you start off in the Timeline View because it will give you a better view of what is happening when you place the transitions. After you place a transition and highlight it, you can further edit its duration and alignment.

But all that is shown in the "applying transitions" article that I am suggesting that you check out first thing. After you go through it, experiment, and explore, if you have any questions, just post them here (smallest or biggest questions).

I will be watching for your progress.

Thanks-I see this will be a much bigger learning curve then Movie Maker but that's what I get when I want more control and better looking movies.

Once you get started and passed your first run through (mini test runs), you will say to yourself "what was all the fuss about, piece of cake?"

I will be watching for your successes.
