Hi there! My name is Amanda and I am the proud new owner of a Nikon D60. I have four children, ages 10 to 3, and live in a highly renovated farmhouse on a gorgeous farm that has been in my husband's family for 150 years.

The past few years I have been using a Canon PowerShot Elph and while the pictures of the kids have been okay, pictures of the farm have been pitiful. The point-and-shoot never did the scenery justice. I was wanting a DSLR for a while, and after some research decided on the Nikon D60.

I have had it for only two days, but have taken over 500 pictures already and have learned so much. I did purchase the Nikon 55-200 mm lens for longer shots and I am so glad! Today I am ordering Photoshop Elements 7 and can't wait to start playing with it also.

Question for the veterans - which books on beginning photography do you most recommend? Also, there are a variety of books on Elements, which one is the best?

Hello, Amanda! I live in North Carolina, so I can't be too far from you.

I've read lots of photography books over the past 20 years, and have looked at endless photography articles on the 'Net. I've never found any book I've enjoyed as much as I've enjoyed "The Digital Photography Book" by Scott Kelby. He has a wonderful writing style which is very straightforward and very down-to-earth. He writes in a way that's easy to understand, and he does it without getting into lots of technical mumbo jumbo. Clear 'n simple ideas anyone can use.

I ordered the 2-book set from Amazon....... "The Digital Photography Book - Volumes 1 and 2."

Scott Kelby has also written books on Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Wonderful writer.

Hope this helps, and best of luck with your new Nikon!
Tom

Hello Amanda!

Welcome to the Elements Village Forum, the friendliest place to learn Photoshop Elements! You will learn plenty here from the vast knowledge supplied by many here. Be sure to go to the PET Website (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/) and sign up there. There you can sign up for the Photoshop Elements Techniques Newsletter, have access to PSE videos, tutorials, and many downloads! If you got any questions, just ask! J

Yep, I couldn't wait (LOL), so I packed myself up and went to Best Buy and bought it for $69.99 (better than Amazon's price). I have been playing with it some already. The Auto Smart Fix is really a great tool, but I am trying to learn how to edit on my own. Boy, I have SO much to learn!

Thanks, Tom! I am going to put those in my cart at Amazon. He has written so many, I didn't know which ones to pick.
