Hello
would love some help with this please and sorry thick as a brick, still very much learning. To cut a long story short i stumbled across digitalscrapbookgraphics and fell in love with a few things and bought them. Though digital scrapbooking is not entirely my whole goal, i cant wait to get the time to experiment how i might incorporate it into another type of presentation. I am not sure completely where i am going with photos yet. Anyway, my problem is, gorgeous photo of my grandaughter and wanting to put angel wings behind her, she is facing camera. Oh and i have PSE6. I tried send back and unlocking background, with this the wings just disappear. I could happily get lost for weeks on end with the scrapbooking supplies out there. Gosh there are some talented people around. And a big thank you to them all.
With much thanks
susan:)

Hi Susan,
Would you be able to post the photo and wings you want to incorporate. We would be better able to know how to help.

Hi Susan,

You put the wings on top of the baby, then erase the part of the wings that would be hidden behind the baby. It helps to see where to erase if you temporarily lower the opacity of the wings layer. Hope this helps.

Thank you both very very much. I am not sure if i can upload the photo as i have never done it before and would probably take me an hour of trying to work it out. The eraser works perfectly thank you. Talk about thick as a brick! Now that i can do it, the wings dont really go well, perhaps its not the right photo to use these for, not sure. Will try and pick another photo. I have a new grandson who is days off arriving and i cant help my self, i am going to get the perfect shot for the baby in the flower and the angel wings and put him in the secret garden and angelic packs and anything else i can find. ( I think i am addicted).
Thank you both again and have a lovely day
A very grateful learner

Hi Susan ...

To post an image ... first step is to resize it.

Resize using Save for Web:

Open your image then do File>Save for Web
When the Save for Web dialogue box come up there is a section over on the bottom right hand side where you can change the pixels size to about 750 (see A) if you tick Constrain Proportions then you only need to change the longest side then just click on Apply. Next take a look at the new size (B) ... and use the quality slider (C) to lower it to around 150k

Then you can use Pixentral to post images.

Go to

http://www.pixentral.com/index.php

Follow the instructions on the site and then when your image is uploaded copy the URL from below the image (where it says forum) and paste it into a message here :)

Hope that helps

:)Thank you very much i will give it a go. Though this photo doesnt compare with the skills you people out there have, so i am a bit embarressed. I have only recently started to recognise and realise, but anyway for me its a good photo except i edited it to get rid of red. Off to try and thank you again

Good try Susan, you are almost there. The easiest thing to do when you get your photo uploaded in pixentral is to go down to where it says forum and triple click your mouse. This way you make sure you get the entire url. Copy and paste it into your post. It will then appear as a thumbnail and you can click on it and get the larger photo from pixentral.

Origonally I thought I select Mia out of photo and then put flowers etc around her and wings on her back but might be too hard. (for me anyway):o

Yea Susan!

I also am an old dog trying to learn new tricks but it sure is exciting isn't it? What an adorable baby. You will have so much to work with when you start to really get into taking photos and editing them. Just take a baby step at a time and you will be amazed at what you can do. Just learn the basics first like cropping, lighting etc. Now that you know how to show your photos you won't find a better place for help. Don't hesitate to ask a question, everyone here started from the bottom.

The amazing thing about photoshop and elements is that each project you want to learn requires different skills so that there is always the magic when you learn all of the capabilities of working with it. Restoration and retouching skills are different than scrapbooking skills. There are so many free tutorials for learning on the internet. Just enjoy the journey and those wonderful grandchildren.

I think this particular photo might not be the best for what you want to do. I am assuming that the wings you have would need to be skewed to fit the angle that Mia is sitting at. Check out the internet for inspiration. This site has many good tutorials and she shoots lots of children. There is so much information out there to enhance your skills. Just start slow and enjoy the journey.

You might check out this tutorial:
http://blog.hummiesworld.com/2007/06/photoshop-elements-extraction-tutorial.html

Basically, what I would do is erase the background by zooming way in and using a small hard brush. Then, I would place the wings on her back and skew them by pressing CTRL (CMD) + T, and CTRL (CMD) + Clicking on one corner anchor at a time to skew them to the right angle. Then, add a drop shadow to make it look more real.

But, I'm sure Hummie's instructions will be more specific.

Thank you all very very much. You are all so helpful. Here is hoping I become adept enough to help one day also and be able to return the kindness and helpfullness you have given me. I can see now it can be done and with all your help I will certainly have a good go at it. I dont have time right now but perhaps over next few days will complete and if successful and if you are interested i will post it to show you. Wow I cannot express my gratitiude enough. Thank you
You all have my sincerest admiration:) (I havent got days off till Tues and Weds but i might be able to get bits of time to play. This program lets you get lost in a fantasy land itself. With what i am reading and seeing i think that learning and abilities are only limited by ones imagination and are endless.
Best wishes to you all

Wendy, after visiting the forums for several months. I just subscribed to Photoshop Elements User. I just read your tutorial on creating a dummy and when I read the title I thought that was strange. As I started reading the tutorial, I realized you were not referring to a dumb person, but to what we call a pacifier (at least in the East part of the US). I just had to laugh at my ignorance.

By the way, you have great tutorials there.

Hi Sonita ...

Oh my goodness this language thing can certainly be confusing ... we always imagine that we speak the same language but but then things like this come up :) :)

Glad that you like my tutorials ...
