BE CREATIVE #75 - THE FILTER GALLERY
Just back from vacation in the UK, so not a lot of time to think about the next creative challenge. So I thought I'd recycle an old one.
Creative #29 - The Filter Gallery (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=291654&postcount=1)
Feel free to use any filters you want - the main purpose of this creative challenge is to use the filter gallery and the above thread explains how it works and has some suggested filters to try. I'll post a simple example using two filters below. If you remember let us know what filters you used.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The small print for the challenge is ……
Everyone is invited to participate.
Please join in, share your images, ideas, imagination and inspiration. There are no rules - feel free to experiment and, if you can remember tell us what you did so others can benefit from your experiments.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Post your images (as many as you like) below in this thread.
If you would like to comment or have a question, please post here. (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=453122#post453122)
Have fun!

Here's a quick and easy one. I used Accented Edges at settings of 1,22,2 followed by the Texturizer using Sandstone with settings of 100, 2 and Top. Made a levels adjustment on the foreground to lighten up a bit. Here's the before and after. Shot was taken last week on Dartmoor in the UK.

Thanks, Tony. Filters are fun to experiment with!

Bottom image (layer 0) - original photo from earlier EZ challenge
Middle image (layer 1) - your painterly effect described in BC #29 with diffuse glow, underpainting & watercolor
Top image - (layer 2) - very dark, but feels like twilight with a setting sun on the boat. Used a dup of the middle (painterly) image, - applied neon glow which looked like a inverted b/w & set layer 2 to color burn.
(a total of 3 layers was used - #0, #1 & #2)

Here is my image. I used:1) Dry Brush 6-5-2
2) Diffuse Glow 4-9-15 and
3) Texturizer -Sandstone 26, 8.
The frame is a pattern Fill using Canvas under the Default patterns with a hue and Sauration adjustment layer.
Thanks for recycling this tutorial, Tony. It will be interesting to see what neat ideas everyone comes up with.

Ok, I hope this turns out all right! I worked on this most of the day. Changed original to Layer 0, then added 5 duplicates. Six layers total. Stacked from top to bottom: Layer 2- Diffuse glow, 5,9,7; Hard light - 43% Layer 4- Graphic pen, 3,54; Linear light- 25% Layer 1- Ink outlines, 4,26,30; Difference - 100% Layer 5- No filter, Linear burn - 44% Layer 3- Photo filter sepia - 90%; Color burn - 88% Layer 0 - No filter; Normal - 100%. This is another taken in the UK in '04. Doris
Added a third photo that I liked, but didn't write down what I did!:eek:

Thanks Tony ... this is a good one for an encore presentation!
This '61 Olds Super 88 has fallen into some very good hands. It's restoration hasn't yet begun, but it's new owner is very proud of it ... and he owns a body shop.

I take a lot of car shots and my favorites are the GM cars of the late '50's and early '60's. I'm really looking forward to seeing how nicely this car turns out.

ps: Oh, yeah, filters. From top to bottom, crosshatch, plastic wrap, poster edges and paint daubs. With lighting effects to finish.

Ok so I went for the filter that would be the filter close to last on the list. I had no idea what the filter was for or what it would do.
The filter was "other" - offset". You can adjust the horizontal and vertical offset. Mine was +47 horizontal and -279 vertical. The 2nd pic is with a different offset along with the following filters 1st gaussian blur and then a "distort" and then "liquidfy".
Now this will make me want to play more. Bad people for showing me more of what I can do with PSE. Now I will probably never finish anything because now it will be "wait, let me try a filter on it, or maybe a frame made from a brush would be best etc etc.". lol
Hope I get these posted ok.

Well tried everything but still not getting something. I did not want a image that was so big that someone could not see it but now I get thumbnail that does not take you to web page? Sorry still trying to figure the art of sizing a photo so you can add to forum that allows someone to click on it and go to a bigger image that is sized to show on a 17" monitor.

Paint daubs and waterpaper filter on black and white with a colour overlay. I had to reduce opacity of water filter paper because it made my tonings too dark.

Well I gave this a shot. The best thing I got out of it (besides playing with the filters) is that it forced me to write down what I did!
Copied the background. Desaturated and used photocopy (10 / 19 ). Applied Soft Light blend with 70% opacity. Next - Dry brush ( 2 / 8 / 1) with a Gaussian Blur of 1.3

Jerry, in Pixentral, after you've uploaded your photo, scroll down toward the bottom of the web page and you will see a box that says: "Forum". Highlight the whole line, ctrl>C to make a copy. Go back to your post here, and do ctrl>V to copy that line into your post. That should make the thumbnail "clickable", so folks here can go to your larger image on Pixentral. Hope that helps.

Can see that I forgot the bracket. Bad eyes I guess. Thanks for the help.
I am still confused as to what size I should make my images so people won't say they are to big to view. Lately I began to make the images 72 res and that helps but the size of my image still is a mystery as far as the best size to make the picture.

When I post on Pixentral, I usually make my image 600 or 700 pixels on the longest side and yes 72 ppi works on the web. I read somewhere that anything bigger is a waste, because the web can't read anything bigger than 72 ppi. Someone else may come along and give you some better advise, but that is what I do.

Tony, thanks! This was a fun challenge -- I love filters. I used Poster Edges, Cut Out, and Texturizer (Sandstone)

Yes, this was great fun. I used the "flood" filter from Flaming Pear, then poster edges, then texturizer>canvas.

Ok, this was fun & I'm officially jealous of that butterfly shot - they are hard to catch with a camera.

I did Find Edges, Hard Light, 75% opacity, then invert/overlay, merge increased sat by 13.

This one - meh- not so crazy about, but did Poster Edges, Dry Brush and Water Paper.
Thanks for the challenge.

Thank you. That's another Seeing Eye pup that lives around the corner. We get the dogs together for playtime - definitely saves our sanity! :D

Here's one from me...1940 Ford Convertible Coupe.
I first used the "film grain" filter (settings 3/7/4). Then I applied a texturizer to it (settings canvas, 106/14 and light from the top).

Thanks Tony, I used the painting effect in your posting and I love it. The
sky was composed of clouds and the filters completely washed it out, so I added a little brush work with a watercolor brush and turned the opacity on that layer way down.
