Does Elements 5 work with Premiere 7? Or do I have to have Elements 7 too? I'm debating whether to buy them together as a package or just get the Premiere.

There are certain perks that you get when you buy an integrated set, NOT necessarily physically bundled together.
Example of integrated sets:
Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3 on the same computer
Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 on the same computer
Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 on the same computer
One of the major perks with this integration business is the ability to do further edits of your Photoshop Elements slideshow once it is on the Premiere Elements Timeline. See Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor "Send to Premiere Elements" output option and Premiere Elements "Break Apart Slideshow command.)
With Photoshop Elements 5, 6, or 7, you should have available that "Send to Premiere Elements" output option. But, unless you have an integrated set (see above examples) installed in the same computer, when the Photoshop Elements slideshow gets to the Premiere Elements Timeline, the Break Apart Slideshow command will not be available. This has implications for slideshow modification/editing in Premiere Elements.
Why do you not do this? You have Photoshop Elements 5. Download the free 30 day try out for Premiere Elements 7 and see if that can work for you, especially if you are not interested in the Premiere Elements Break Apart Slideshow command.
And, consider your timing for upgrading. It seems like around Thanksgiving every year a new version of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements appear on the scene.

Thanks. That's really helpful. I finally did download the trial version of both 7's today and am playing with them.
