Hi,
Hoping someone can please provide with some tips for upgrading from PSE4 to PSE7 :). I have a large number of photos and digital files that I don't want to loose during the upgrading process. Is there anything special I need to do to ensure that existing files/images are not lost? Any advice / guidance would be most appreciated (I tried searching previous posts to no avail).
Thanks in advance - Louise

Are you referring to photos that have been imported into the PSE Organizer?
If so, you simply need to install PSE7 and have it convert the PSE4 catalog. I believe it does this automatically for you the first time you launch PSE7 and it finds a PSE4 catalog.

I'm also interested in the response to this inquiry. Can anyone confirm what Paige says. To quote part of her response "...............I believe it does this automatically....."

If it doesn't do it automatically, you can convert the catalog yourself, as described in
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PhotoshopElements/7.0_Win/WS6FD377FF-2010-4fac-876A-41502281E986.html
You have nothing to lose, so you might as well go ahead and try it.
However, part of your comment is incorrect. It should read "To quote part of his response..."

Louise,
I recommend that people do cleanup activities on the catalog of the old version before they upgrade to the new version. In your case, you have version 4, so you would open the Organizer in v4 and use its File menu to
-- Catalog > Recover
-- Reconnect All Missing Files
and then
-- Catalog > Recover (yes do the same command a second time)
The reason for these cleanup activities is that they can help to avoid problems when you install the new version and it does the upgrade of your Catalog information to the new version's format.
Note: Most people have only one Catalog for the Photoshop Elements Organizer - but, if by chance you have multiple catalogs in v4, you should do the cleanup commands for each catalog

Hi,
A month or so ago I posted the qn above regarding updating from PSE4 to PSE7, which I have now done. However, I am having trouble when I go into the organiser. Specifically, my photos and tags do not appear. I followed the advice of the kind members around restoring catalogs, however I am still none the clearer about what is going on!!!
I am able to see something called my catalog (with the generic PSE sample photos in it), however I am unable to see my own photos. I can navigate to individual files and folders within the computer to locate my photos, however given the number of photos that I have, this would take a long time to individually import all. Is there a simple way for me to make PSE7 'see' my photos and the tags previously created in PSE4?
Thanks (once again!) in advance, Louise
