I found out the guy who wrote one of the books I have is doing a seminar near me. It is geared toward Photoshop and I have Elements 6. Is it worth it if I don't have the full version? How much do you need to know when going? I am really new. I know the basic, basics. Any thoughts?

Hi Amy-
Dave gives a great seminar, in my opinion. I went to one of his about 3 years ago and really enjoyed it. I found about 60-65% was applicable to Elements. That was when the current version of Photoshop was CS2, and I'm sure this seminar will cover CS4. In looking through the session descriptions, there do seem to be quite a bit of topics specific to the full version of Photoshop.
The pace is very fast, and while he does a good job of explaning things, there is a bit of prior knowledge assumed.
Hope that helps in your decision!

I attended a Dave Cross presentation a year ago. It was focused on CS3 and covered selection tools and some other tools that overlapped with PSE. I suppose it was worth it--it's almost a cultural experience as much as anything else. There are no questions entertained from the audience--the presentation is scripted and stays on script and on schedule. There are also several pitches to join NAPP, which seems like a secondary agenda.
These aren't complaints, just observations. Having gone once I doubt I'd go again, but you may find it interesting and worth the money if you're an experienced PSE user.

...There are also several pitches to join NAPP, which seems like a secondary agenda...Secondary? I would classify it at a minimum as a CO-agenda.
I've attended two Kelby seminars - one for Elements, one for PSCS - and both were rife with plugs for NAPP.
Given that NAPP is a Kelby product, too, I am not alarmed at the cross-marketing.

I was being generous. :)
NAPP is indeed a Kelby product and not something I'm interested in myself. For others...your mileage may vary.
There were several vendors that had small booths and one could pick up books and software, such as plug ins, at good prices. Once you factor in the cost of the seminar and lunch you probably wouldn't save much unless you bought quite a bit of stuff.

Hi ...
I too have attended one of these (mine was a Scot Kelby seminar) and learned so much from it ... even though it was for Photoshop it gave me lots of ideas on how to creatively use Elements.
Just wish that they would do another one in the UK ... and although I didn't join NAPP at the time I did a year or so later :)
