View Full Version : duplicate file names from two Sony cameras

I just returned from a cruise where I added my images each evening to my laptop using Elements 6 so I started with an empty memory card each day. I have 2 different Sony cameras. When I was organizing my photos into folders for each day, I realized that some of the photos needed to be reconnected, then that several files weren't found. I think the problem is that my main camera named photos on day one with the file name (in sequence), then later in the trip, my smaller p&s named photos with the same name. The thumbnail shows up for both images, but I can't find a file for the ones added from the point and shoot. Those are some of my favorite images. Is there a way to find the image files for those thumbnails?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Terry

The usual reason for photos needing to be reconnected is that you either renamed or moved or deleted the photos in Windows. I don't think it has anything to do with duplicate file names, as long as the photos are in different folders and have different capture times.

So, if you moved or renamed your photos in Windows, you can either un-move them, or un-rename them, or you can use the File->Reconnect command in PSE.

In the future, do not use Windows to move or rename or delete your photos. Only use PSE commands for renaming, moving and deleting.

Paige, thanks for posting. I moved the files from Elements 6 with the Move selection under File. I believe the problem happened from when I initially moved the files from the memory card to Elements 6. There must be a setting that keeps files that have already been transferred into Elements from transferring a second time. However, because the file content was different, with just the same sequential name (from a different camera), only the thumbnail is present. Does this make any sense and sound like a logical explanation? Is there a way to get the entire file from somewhere else on the computer since there is a thumbnail present? The memory cards have been cleared already :(, so that isn't an option.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Terry

Ok, you did use PSE to move the files.

Tell me how you did the import from your camera's memory card to PSE. Which PSE command did you use?
