Whether the quest is for intelligent beings on distant planets or an indication of spring in the Pacific Northwest, everyone is looking for life in other places. What say we go find some? The theme for the week is signs of life.

Well I can't believe I am going first this week :), (although in a parallel universe I am also last as I got my shot for accessories this morning too :o) but here is this week's theme, a shot of some blossom taken this morning (we seem to have some blue sky on Sundays at the moment).

I'm sure there will be lots of blooms shot this week, look forward to seeing them :)

Another Sunday morning in the UK pic. Was visiting the London Wetlands - lots of life (and pics) there as it's the mating season for ducks but I'll go with some alder catkins that had just come to life ...

The flowers have dropped revealing the bees did their work and now the oranges are starting to grow. Yippee!

Any scatologists in the crowd? No? Well, this is a sign those pesky blacktailed deer are alive and have been through the yard. There is a herd of about 20 that live in the lot below me. The neighbor feeds them and even provides them with a salt lick, which he cleverly refers to as Salt Lick City. You have to be clever in gardening, and choose plants they don't want to taste. The bottom photo is the nice pruning job they have done on a neighbor's hedge.

Only in Nebraska do you get a tornado warning and a blizzard warning at the same time in April. Our "new life" got a little cold today....

Here's my entry. This old bike belonged to my dear departed father-in-law. We stuck it out in out back as a piece of yard-art. Over the years it has been rusting out, becoming more picturesque each season. In winter you can see the whole bike. By the end of summer you'd have to know it was there to spot it. Today I noticed the little creepers are starting to make their spring appearance, just a few days after the 9th anniversary of his death. Cycle (oh dear...pun!) of life? He would have loved that I said that!

Late yesterday we noticed that our rhubarb had started to sprout. Then I read the theme for this week and knew I had my entry. At the crack of dawn, just before we left for the ferry back to Campbell River, I took this photo of it.

We have our fingers crossed that it won't have finished before we get back from London. It's such a treat for the short time that it is available!
Cheers,
Helen

This was actually taken last weekend. I hope nobody minds - I will be looking for more "signs of life" this week, but this seemed so apropo. A swan on her (his?) nest.

Apple blossoms on my neighbor's tree.
The genius who planted this tree, and its five siblings, decided that they'd go great about 1 foot from the fence line. And then they decided they couldn't be bothered with pruning them, or taking care of them in any way.
Consequently, every year the trees over-produce bad fruit. And about 50% of it falls in my yard unless I prune the branches that over-hang the fence, leaving the tree with a flat side... which I do.

It was nice to see some other sign of life on the deserted beach that we were walking on in St. George Island State Park in Florida. The lack of other people was probably due to the fact that it was colder in the Florida Panhandle on Tuesday than it was in Denver, Colorado.

Sign of "Something"!?! If anyone knows what this is, please enlighten me. Not a great picture, the little bird was on a branch over my garage. I've never seen such a furry faced bird before.

Easter egg - rebirth - New Life (someone had to do it :))
It's official, I have lost any sign of sanity. It took about three hours in two sessions to get this image. I'm obsessed, I need to be hospitalized! Surely you are going to take a sliver of the blame for this Bill?
Please enjoy this image everyone (You can pretend if you want to ;))

The local park was showing many different signs of life this week. Green and growing, little and furry, four footed furry, two legged....

I have some mint in a pot, which I thought was surely dead after the unusually long and cold winter we've had here. But I was surprised and pleased to notice a couple of tiny shoots.
