Chesney,

I have uploaded my "challenge" to its forum. I am still pretty new to all this and have not figured out how to make frames for the photos. I looked at your gallery and see that you have some pretty neat framings on yours.

Did you make them? are they from Tuts? How do I go about doing a neat frame such as you have on your red orchids that are popping out of the frame?

Thanks for yours help,
Kimmer

Tammy,

Thank you for the lovely words and using my Tutorial for one of the Challenges. What surprises me about this is how simple a few blending modes can make on a photo.
Using the bas relief just enhances the changes.

Thank you again Tammy.
Hope everyone has fun with the tutorial.

Thank you both, Tammy and Deborah, for providing the tutorial. It really is a neat effect. I can see where it can be very addictive!
The images posted so far are very nice!
Ms Katy, that photo looks awesome with this effect!!

wow, everyone's images are looking fantastic - I love the variety so far!

Kimmer, you asked me how to make a frame, I am not great at giving directions, but I will try - it is not hard at all

1. Use the rectangular marquee and draw a rectangle around the part of the image you want to frame

2. Select - Inverse

3. copy the selection and paste it onto it's own layer above the image

4. on the frame layer add a bevel (I used the 1st one), and then I clicked on the blue icon on the frame layer and increased the size

5. Turn off the frame later and go to the original image

6. Use the magnetic lasso and select the areas you want to overlap the frame, (you can hit the add button on top to add more to your selections).

7. copy your selections and paste them on a layer above your frame

8. Turn back on your frame layer and you have it!

(I think I may have also turned off the frame layer and the overlap layer and went back to the original picture and used the rectangular marque around the center of my image within the frame and then copied it on a layer above the original picture and used the indented line bevel on that for extras decor).

If you don't understand any of this don't hesitate to contact me and I will try explaining how to do it again! Hopefully this helps!

This tut really provided a lot of variety. I really enjoyed all the different pics people did.

Bill-your car was awesome! I actually thought of you today as a red TR6 was parked behind me. Haven't seen one of those in many years - & it was mint.

Carol-I did not think about trying the invert twice. Of course, I've never used adjustment layers much, but that flower is gorgeous.

Thought they were all good, but those 2 stood out for me.

Thanks Tam.

Chesney,

Sorry that I have not replied to last week's challenge response about the frames. My twin grandchildren were born last week--6 wks early. A boy, weighing 3lbs, 4oz, a girl weighing 5lbs 11 oz. Considering everything, they are both very healthy. They are still in intensive care, but today I got to hold and feed the little girl. What joy!!!!

But, meanwhile, I also can't wait to get back to this and follow your frames tut.

Thanks for doing it and I won't forget to upload the photo I do with it

wow, I can't believe all of the participation in this week's challenge! Welcome to all of you that are joining us for the first time - hope you found this fun! A special THANKS to Deborah again for sharing her technique with us, there are so many creative ways you can go with this!!

BJ: Perfect image for the effect! The textures are perfect for the structure and lvoe those dramatic colors!

Shar: The linear light makes this fish glow, but I have to say I favor your 2nd image (using the luminosity blend mode), those colors are fabulous!

Kimmer: Both of your images turned out great, but I LOVE your 2nd image with the house, it is so perfect for this effect (not to mention easy on the eyes)! Congrats on being a new Grandma to twins!!

Dspec01: What gorgeous colors the effect brought out in your first picture, and wow, the composition on your tree image is gorgeous and love what the effect did to the trees (I think trees are especially condusive to this effect)!

Martha: Your little girl and the pumpkins is absolutely adorable - I had fun clicking to see the different effects (I still need to learn to do this)! Your 2nd image is also wonderful, how creative applying the effect to a sketch. My favorite has to be your 3rd image, WOW, this turned out spectacular! Love everything about this one!

BillZ: I would have never guessed, a CAR! :) The effect really mad your car shiny and brought out some nice texture! Cool perspective!

Ms Katy: Love the effect w/ your image, it really makes it glow! Stunning!

Doris! I always love your work's uniqueness and this is no exception - AWESOME!

Toni: All I can say is MAGICAL! Wow, this is so surreal with those colors!

Djkaraok: I am so glad you found us and hope you will continue playing with us! A perfect image for the effect -all that texture is delicious! I think half the battle here is finding the right image, and you did it!

Clara: I have noticed simple images work perfectly with this effect and you nailed it! Love the jeweled colors this brought out!

Sepiana: Your church is fabulous, I especially love what it did to the steeple, very cool!

Sosdog: Wow! I agree that the trees really benefitted from this efect - they almost look haunted in the way they glow!

LindaJ: What an awesome tree! The simplicity of this image really lends itself to the effect! Your tree just pops off the screen at you! NICE!

Jo: I love your "springy" daffodils! The texture combined with the pastels make this so pleasing to the eyes! Beautiful!

Kim R: Very dramatic, these rich colors just lead you into the image! spectacular!

Pat: I hop she doesn't think I'm dinner, she looks like she is on the hunt...LOL wonderful image, never thought of trying an animal - I like it!

Roln: Love this image, and wow, those trees almost look like thye are covered in frost! Nice work!

Victry1: Love the cityscape! All the lines in this really leads to an interesting look with the effect! This turned out really cool! It's amzing how different backgrounds changed the whole look and feel of your second image, another great take!

Carol: I never would have thought to invert it twice, I need to try this! What a nice result (and eye pleaser)!

Val: Love how your image appears to be sticking out at you - feels like I could just reach out and grab it! Awesome!

MKS: You did this perfectly! Love the colors, love the textures and love how your framing shows off the image! Wonderful!

Again, thank you for everyone's participation - this was a fun week! I look forward to seeing what is in store for us tomorrow!!
