I create a layer with a jpg or psd file. I want to add another layer containing a different jpg file. The only way I've been able to do this is to create a new layer, open the new jpg file, then select the entire image, copy it and paste it into the new layer. Is there an easier way to do this?

Open up your 2nd photo. Then go to Windows>Images>Tile. Then drag the background layer from Image2 to Image1. This will place the Image2 layer on top of the Background Layer of Image1. Close Image2.

Yet another way...

Open both images, one will be in the active workspace and you should see both in the photo bin at the bottom.

Select the move tool (V).

Click, hold and drag the image from the active workspace and drop it on the the other image in the photo bin.

Thanks to you both. I guess there's something wrong with my PC. Neither of those techniques work for me. My PC is 7 years old, and I've ordered a new one from Dell. I suppose I could try reinstalling PSE, but it's a bit of a nuisance to set up plugins, etc. I think I'll just wait till the new PC arrives. Then I can spend all of my time reinstalling everything from my old computer and wrestling with Vista incompatibilties.
