The only way you're going to make that photo fit into an 8x10 format is to distort the aspect ratio, which you probably don't want to do. I suggest you go into the crop tool, set the dimensions to 10w x 8h, then proceed to try cropping it. You will find that certain sections will not fit into the crop and you will have to give up part of it.

The only other thing you can try if you don't want to lose any sections of the photo, is to create a new, blank canvas sized at 8x10, then drag the photo onto the new canvas. You can then resize it to fit inside the canvas. This will leave some blank area around the photo, but you can have that printed.

Hi Christa,

What a cute photo! As Gene advised, you'll need to use the crop tool to make this image into an 8x10 aspect ratio. In future just keep in mind that your camera isn't producing an 8x10 aspect ratio and if you know you will want to print 8x10s, compose your shot to account for some necessary cropping along the width.

The photo you posted is too wide (I'm sure you already know that) so you'd lose part of the sides by cropping to 8 x 10 as has been pointed out by genevh.

Another solution that will allow you to keep the full width of your photo is to add a border on the bottom of your photo and place the names of the subjects, location, date, etc. there. You can do this by creating an 8 x 10 background of a suitable color then copying your photo onto the background, resizing it to fit it width-wise and positioning the photo to butt it along the top edge of the background. This would leave you some blank space on the bottom to enter your desired text.

Christi, you can use the Crop tool to resize the image AND add the extra "border" that you will need, all in one step.

With your image open, choose the Crop tool, set the dimensions in the options bar to 10X8, and then drag the crop box out over the photo and release the button. Don't commit the crop just yet. You will see what part you would have to loos, right?

Now grab one of the corner handles and drag it outside the image. DO the same to the other corner, so that your entire image is inside what is now a much bigger "crop box". This is now showing you what extra border area you are going to get, in order to keep the entire original image in tact.

Resize the box using the handles, and reposition it as preferred, then commit the crop.

Your 10X8 is is created, and the new edges will be created and will be given the "Background" swatch color.
