Hi there,

I'm new and a bit confused. I recently switched from a Dell to a Mac. I currently load my photos into iPhoto and before I can open any of them in PSE6, I have to go into iPhoto and export the photos I want to work on. I'll be the first to admit I'm no computer genius, but does it looks to me like the images I export are being saved in a second location on my hard drive. If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's a messy or redundant hard drive.

Should I be saving my photos somewhere other than iPhoto, or am I missing some simple little thing that would let me open a photo stored in iPhoto without exporting it first?

Thanks in advance!

Do you shoot RAW or Jpeg?

Hi Paper Lily ..

... and welcome to the Village :)

When you drag & drop the image (or export the image) from iPhoto then you are indeed creating a duplicate of it. However, I then work on that duplicate image and once it is finished then I save it into a folder on my desktop and import it back into iPhoto.

Once its back in iPhoto I then delete the image in the desktop folder .. :)

PS ... Don't try using Elements to open images that are stored in iPhoto or to save the images back into iPhoto as that can cause all sorts of problems.

Try use the Adobe (Bridge) Photo Editing Software since it design for Photoshop Elements 6.0.

P.S It come with your Adobe installation disk.

Which you use is personal preference. I prefer iphoto despite the work around Wendy mentions. Bridge is a browser whereas iphoto is a library.

I tend to use both ...

iPhoto to store my photographs

My layered creations I store in a folder system on my hard disk and I use Bridge to access them. (I also use Bridge as a general filebrowser to browse my hard disk ... you can use Bridge alone just as a filebrowser)

Wow, there's a lot to this! Thanks to all for your responses. I'm afraid I don't understand what most of you are talking about though (I'm such a newbie!). I know I have the Bridge program on my computer, but I have no idea how to use it. I did some searching and found some old threads on here that helped me. I changed a preference in iPhoto and now I can open a photo through iPhoto and work on it in PSE, so I think I'll stick with that for now.

Thanks again! I appreciate it!

Hi ...

Once you have been using it for a while you really will get the hang of it ... :)

Try opening Bridge then once it is open double click on any of the folders that appear in the large window. That opens up the folder and you will be able to see what is inside it ... :)
