View Full Version : Bluetooth mouse problem

I was curious if this has happened to anyone else who might be working with the wireless mouse; you are doing a selection with the lasso, and before you make it to the end, the selection shoots across the intended image, closing it off before you are done? It's really frustrating, and it doesn't happen all the time. I have PSE3 on my IMac, and am using the Microsoft IntelliMouse for Bluetooth. Somehow I feel it's the constant click click click that confuses the signal. I have the double click speed set at about 50% in preferences, which I think is safe, but maybe it is still too fast. I may end up getting out the corded mouse for PSE.
Before I purchase a tablet, has anyone had any experience with the Bluetooth version of that?

Hi there ...
The cordless mouse for the tablet works just fine ... :)
Is the Microsoft IntelliMouse opticlal ... Its just that I use the Mac optical mouse and this happens occasionally. What usually causes it is a hair or dust on the optical sensor ... in my case its car hairs as she loves to sit on the desk :). When it happens I give it a blast of air and it usually sorts it out :)

I've had numerous problems with Bluetooth devices and I ended up removing it completely. The mouse would disconnect, right in the middle of something important, the keyboard would not be recognized upon booting up the computer.
I switched for a Logitech wireless desktop combo and it works fine now.

My Bluetooth mouse works pretty well....until my Bluetooth phone rings! Then it does its own thing until I take care of the call. Ah, technology....

Bluetooth is really best just for short wireless transmission of data. I really would recommend against something like a mouse that uses it. It's best just for data transmission between devices, such as files.

Thanks for your input on this. The out of control lasso is really the only PSE problem I have encountered with Bluetooth. I got this IMac G5 last year and really like the minimalist look; however I guess image isn't everything, especially when 10 minutes of tracing an object is wasted. Perhaps I could use the wired mouse for my projects and save the wireless for others. The Apple Wireless Keyboard is performing flawlessly. In fact, I have been on the original batteries for 14 months now.

I must say I got my Mac without BlueTooth, I added it later with an USB adapter. So that could explain my various problems.

I am late to this discussion, but I wonder if the wild lasso problem may not be the Bluetooth, but PSE3's known wildness with the lasso tool? Red Sky said this was the only area giving problems so it seems the rest of the application seems to be okay with the Bluetooth.
Are you making selections near the image edges with a zoomed picture? The lasso tool will sometimes make its own mind where to go next.
Wendy-"in my case its cat hairs as she loves to sit on the desk . When it happens I give it a blast of air and it usually sorts it out "
I assume you mean you blast the mouse and not the cat. I think blasting the cat might give you a lot more hairs.;)

Ward Grant- Could you elaborate on the PSE lasso problem, as I have not heard of this? I just assumed it was a Bluetooth problem and not a software issue. Thanks.

I forgot to answer your question on zooming into the image, and yes, I usually go in quite close and then scroll with the space bar as I move along.

I use PSE3 with a touch pad on a laptop and have the same problem. I've also seen several posts in this and the Adobe User to User forum describing this same pattern. The lasso tool will jump over the screen while being used; this strange pattern seems to be more prevalent when the image is highly zoomed.
Suggestions have been to work on an image at a smaller zoom (if still possible to see the detail), to do the selection in sections using the Add To option (overlapping boxes when Lasso Tool selected) and combine tools, perhaps using the Lasso Tool for a rough outline and then small brushes to add/remove details.
In PSE4 the Lasso Tool is reportedly more obedient and less likely to go off on its own, but I have not worked with that version personally.

Ward ...
Oh that is good ... if I tried to blast the cat with air then I donlt think that she would like it.
I do find that the Apple wireless mouse seems to attract fine hairs into the gap where the beam is but once I had worked out what caused it then its easy to solve. I donlt use the magnetic lasso at all ... its just too erratic for me :(

I agree with you Wendy on the magnetic lasso; I rarely use it as I just can't seem to get it to accept the "edge" that I am looking for.
I have resorted to doing the tricks Ward touched upon when the lasso goes nuts. I use the shift key to do a wide add on, then copy and paste it into a new file and work on refining it from there. At least all the previous tracing isn't wasted. I have also learned to use the selection brush better as this method doesn't give me the grief.
Now if I can only keep my cat from rubbing her head up against the keyboard when I'm working. Hitting the option and control keys do some strange things, none of which are desired!

Hi there ...
Yesterday our cat was sitting on the desk when suddenly the screen started to do very strange things ... eventually my husband worked out that the cat was just making contact with the keyboard. Looks like she found a new shortcut :)
