Great idea for a theme Bill.
I shall have my eyes peeled this week :).

Whoa...tough one! And since I didn't post LAST week's theme until MCM hours yesterday, I may once again find myself not the lead-off batter...
but I feel sufficiently challenged to do so

...Conquest of Air and Ether....Steven, It appears to me that the volume is titled "AIP AND ETHER" which is, of course, even more poetic!
Sepiana - It's a triple-play... no... make that a Grand Slam... love it!!

Oh, Byron, thanks so much! That's really nice. (I had to ask my DH what a Grand Slam was.):o:D

Hi Lisa -
Can you tell us a little about the marvelous little purse/souvenir? from Southport that your half sovereign is leaning against?
Cheers,
Helen

Hi Helen,
:) it's a little sovereign purse and we think that the sovereign (which is 1912) would have been given in that, however the purse is probably older. It says 'made in Germany' on the reverse, I would estimate late Victorian. It's a bit tatty as you can see, but presumably brought back by someone from a trip to the seaside.

That was challenging but everyone did a very nice job with it.
Val – Thanks for getting us started with a little primer. Always the teacher!! Good catch on the WSJ banner! That's a lot of volumes!!
Steven – It's hard to think of Funk and Wagnall's without giving a little chuckle to the Laugh In routine. What cool books ... I would think that having The Science of Crime Detection probably makes up for not having the last two volumes of the set. Nice shot and a fun entry as always!
Sepiana – That's wonderful. It's a great take on the theme, and a very funny set up. Nicely done!!
Sharon – We all need financial strategies at this point, so please tell us ... balance your what?? And what were the first XIII?? Nice composition Sharon ... that's a very good entry.
Toni – Glad I could help you out! ;-) That's a very clever theme interpretation. Had I thought of it myself I could have saved a few days of futile searching!
Clara – Well you nailed that shot! Nice and crisp with excellent detail. I love the shadowing behind the bottle and the framing technique. For being empty, that's a fine looking pint!
Helen – That's beautiful and you really got a nice crisp shot of it. I love the little stones on the pin part of it. Very nicely done!!!
Linda – Wow! I love the colors, the composition, and the fun lines of the curtains. That's really a nice shot, I'm glad the higher res shot is on your blog because the thumbnail doesn't do it justice. Well done! Good twofer for your blog as well!!
Doris – Very clever way to handle the theme!
Eleanor – That was a great catch ... especially in the less than ideal shooting situation you described. It figures, the one time you want to be stuck in traffic for a minute or two it starts to move again. ;-)
Mary Lou – Nice shot. I like the angle you chose and the way the hands sort of disappear on the clock face on the right. What's that blue up in the sky where the gray is supposed to be??
Ellen – Great shots. For being out on the left coast, that's really an old building. I have some shots of it from a few years ago ... but its age didn't sink in. It's a beautiful building and you did a nice job of capturing it's Roman Numerals.
Gary – I was afraid I was going to have to make one up too. I eyed up a bag of M & M's, and thought about the signs for those places that have 30 dancers ... you know, XXX ... but ultimately I was saved. This was a tough theme ... I'm glad you found 400 R's, and new ones at that! ;-)
Lisa – I'm glad you found something! And not just anything either, that coin is beautiful. I too am fascinated by the little coin purse from Southport. Thanks for filling in some of its history. I'll bet it could tell some fascinating stories. Great DOF and a really nice shot overall.
Nice shots this week everyone. I'm a bit late today, but there are still a few hours left for you to tell a friend.

Thanks Bill for your insightful commentry once again, I'm sure it's what makes the photo theme so successful.
Lisa, loved your coin, and the purse behind it. What an heirloom.
Mary Lou, funny how our eyes get opened once we think 'photo theme' :D
Gary, a truly inspiring entry, I really enjoyed it.
Clara, your bottle is fabulous!
Doris, you're funny (in the nicest possible way)
Can't wait to see what this week's theme will bring us.

Thank you Bill. It's Balance your "books", it was an advertisement in Smithsonian Magazine for "Daedalus Books" and I have no idea what the other XIII were, but I'm sure you can find them at salebooks.com

Thanks as always for your terrific comments, Bill.
My friend says that there are two amethysts and two rubies in the watch pin - "genuine imitation" both of them. :D

Bill... those other options did cross my mind as well, alas we do not have any xxx places in town and I really don't need M&Ms sitting around/\.
Thanks for the comments.... as always very insightful.
