Just loaded Premier Elements 7. Got sick of Windows Movie Maker freezing on me all the time. I like to produce movies of our outdoor adventures to music. I have 1.8 Ghz and 2 RAM. At 2 minutes of video and music memory is slowing then stopping me. I stopped Norton anti-virus and nothing else is running. Do I need more RAM? Do I have to split up the clips and music into chaptersd to make a 20 minute movie???

Jkstraw –

Welcome to the Village!

I don’t have a solution, but maybe a couple of points. Microsoft Movie Maker has a minimum processor requirement of 600 Mhz. Premier Elements 7 has a minimum processor requirement of a 1.8 Ghz. So, if you were having trouble with Movie Maker it would make sense that a more complex program would be troublesome as well. In addition, your 1.8Ghz processor is the bare minimum for PSE7. :(

Even though you have halted your Norton, you may have many other small programs going. Check with the Windows Task Manger (hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys simultaneously). See how many processes are running. As a reference, I try to keep 50 or fewer processes running on my machine. Of course, your mileage may vary ;)

Some time back, I ran a video editing program (not Premier Elements) on a machine similar to yours. What I ended up doing was to reduce the number of processes to the bare minimum that Windows requires. Now, you could do that manually, halting processes one by one. What I did was to use a small utility called EndItAll.

EndItAll, as the name implies, closes all non-essential processes. It may allow a computer near the bottom of the minimum specs to operate. You can check it out Here (http://enditall.en.softonic.com/). Once you have activated EndItAll, don't do anything else other than the video editing - you will be unable to do much of anything else because all those additional processes are needed for other jobs.

Hopefully, you can get your project completed. I ultimately updated my old computer and all those video editing problems disappeared.

Good luck, :D

Steve

BTW – You may get some additional answers if you were to post in the Premier Elements Forum Here (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15)

Thanks. I will try and get a "better" processor. If a 2.0 or higher fits I will try that first. I don't think increasing RAM would be as effective.
