We've just installed PSE 5.0, and the manual is not much help.......

•When you create a new album/category, does Elements automatically save it? I would hate to lose all that sorting.

•If you a mistakenly put a photo in a category, can you take it out without deleting it from the library?

Hi PSE5 does save your pics in the category you created automatically.
You can remove pics from categories.
The best book to get is Photoshop elements 5 for dummies.

There are no "albums" in PSE5.

Assuming you mean you assigned a tag or category to a photo, you remove the tag from the photo by selecting the photo and then right-clicking and select Remove Tag.

Whatever changes you make are saved immediately.
