Thank you both for your words of encouragement :).

This is one thing I didn't think I would be doing in PE3 - I bought it mainly to restore old photos and a large pile of old 35mm slides... and looking at other entries in the Challenge, well it did put me off a bit at first. :oops:

Anyway role on Thursday for the next one. :D

Jodi is a brilliant artist ... so its better not to compare to hers :).

You are doing really well and the more you experiment the better you get. When I first started doing the Challenge I used to think that everyone was so much better than I and it very nearly scared me off sending entries in ... I'm so glad that I persisted as it has been a great way to learn.

I had little inspiration for this Challege so resorted to a clean up .. but earlier today I had an idea. Several hours later I was still doing it ... in the end it all came together so I sent it to Grant a little while ago. Its not posted yet but I'm quite please with how it turned out.

Thanks for your comments on the challenge entries, it took me three weeks to pluck up the courage to send something in... :oops:

At least I have the new challenge to look forward to on Thursday beyond the dentist :D

Hey inspiration will come ... usually I have no idea what to do with the image so I start of by selecting it, then pasting in onto its own layer. somewhere along the line something usually comes to me.

Another way of getting new ideas is looking at tutorials on websites ...

I have to say that I too had a hard time with this one ... I'm sure that next week you will do just fine.

Of your list I managed initials, gradient layer (with a bit of liquify thrown in) ... didn't manage the background, but does having a glass of wine count instead of the bottle :)

Kerri, what I generally do is take a look at the challenge after Grant posts it on thursday night. Then I just kind of let the image brew in my brain overnight. I basically don't try to think too hard about it. I'll be laying there watchin TV or something and an idea will pop into my head...then I kind of visualize what I will do with it and how I will execute it. The next morning I'll download the challenge and fiddle a little with the original idea I had the previous night....while drinking my coffee. Then I shut it down and walk away...do housework etc...this is when the ideas start becoming more vivid and the project has ended in my mind. Then i sit back down and get to work. It rarely ends the way I pictured it...usually better....usually a new road opens. Point is, don't pressure yourself ! It comes from within and forcing it just holds it back further. Picture yourself as an ATV without boundaries and a tank full of gas....or an eagle. Please consider yourself gifted...and you will be. We all have it. Learn to be still and it will come.

Thanks Jodi, now if I just follow your method to the letter will I turn into the gifted artist you are? Doubt it. :) I appreciate your response to my frustrations. I'm not a very patient person. It's sweet of you guys to put up with me. (I hope you and Wendy don't get headaches from rolling your eyes at my postings all the time.)

I'll just keep trying to do more art and less typing. Thanks for being there, all you guys!

Before this week I was the same as you about the challenge. I messed around with entries to the statue and actually completed one for the strawberry but didn't send them in. Work contributed to the second one not going in though.

Even with this week I struggled with what to do and then whether to send it in when I eventually came up with one (the album). Originally (influenced by looking at the other entries) I came up with a great idea that I couldn't put into practice. :x :oops: That put me off...plus I was looking at the work of Jodi and others and thinking yeah right as if I can do something like that.

What actually triggered both ideas was (strangely as Wendy suggested) two quick tutorials from Kelby... I wouldn't say that I'm at all creative - far from it infact. I just thought how can I apply what I've been learning to do in PE3 to that picture? Rather than work on a picture of my own, or a Kelby photo, I'll use the challenge image. I just played around with a few very simple ideas and built up from there. That's what made the difference and got me going... :)

People will often refine an image and resubmit it with the same name and ask me to over write the origional ... so it is no big prolem to change a bit ere and there.

last time i caught one was you gals in your costumes last week..i have no idea what happened but i wrote 'chey nous' instead of 'chez nous'. What was so stupid about it was I was only enhancing what was already there in the challenge image. duh ! ...and i speak french !!!!
