View Full Version : PE 7 tags disappear

Last week the data was transferred from my old computer to a new one. At the same time, I upgraded from PE5 to PE 7. The tags didn't transfer with the pictures.
I had no trouble with tags in PE5. I am trying to re-tag with PE 7 by drag and drop. The tag goes to the picture on the lower left, then disappears( all normal) but the generic tag that appears at the bottom right of the picture containing all of the tags doesn't show.
When I tag the pictures and then search for a specific person, the picture appears so the tag is there but I can't get the generic tag to show.
What am I missing?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

You should be able to convert your pse5 catalog to a pse7 catalog and retain all your tags. It sounds like you are importing your images into a new pse7 catalog.
I think you should be able to use file>catalog>open from the Organizer in pse7 and browse to your pse5 catalog and open it to convert.
I have no experience with v7. Maybe someone else who converted from 5 will be able to help. I don't quite understand your question about the generic tag but some icons only appear when a large thumbnail is viewed. Does changing the size of your thumbnails make any difference?

Perhaps I wasn't clear. The tag is in the lower left hand corner of the thumbnail for about 2-3 seconds. Then disappears. What doesn't appear is the icon containing all the tags that is shown on the lower right hand of the thumbnail. It makes no difference the size of the thumbnail.

Larry,
Do you have the box for "Details" checked ?
It is to the right of the slider for the thumbnail size slider and the pulldown for newest/oldest first. My experience is that you will not see those tag indicator icons unless the Details box is checked.
However, we don't want to ignore Paige's comment that you should be able to upgrade your PSE 5 cataolg and you should not need to retag. I suggest that you explain why yu are retagging.

BECAUSE MY GRANDSON DID THE TRANSFER FROM AN OLD COMPUTER TO THE NEW AND DID NOT CHECK THE BOX FOR TAG TRANSFER!! I love him anyway.

BarbO. Thanks....many thanks. I did not have the details box checked. Still have to retag but at least I know now which ones I have retagged.
Now on to the next three problems...my canon printer isn't working correctly, I can't print labels because the definitions aren't working and retagging over 1,000 photos.
But I've made progress thanks to your help.

Larry,
If you are converting a catalog there is no box for tag transfer. Looks like you did a fresh import of copied photos (which does have the import tag box) to a new blank catalog.
If you can find a copy of your version 5 catalog, the .psa file, you should be able to convert it to a version 7 catalog, then try a reconnect all. This should give you at least the possibility of getting all your tags back.

Some times my tag names disappear from the tag palette, nothing shows up. I restart the organizer and they will reappear. I am guessing that it is a memory issue.
Maybe a different issue.
