View Full Version : Brushes icons frozen in "precise."

Hi All,

I am having a problem with the computers I use for my classes at the local high school. They just loaded PSE 7.0 for this term's class. All twenty machines were loaded from a central source. Most everything works. But...

The icon used for brushes is stuck at the "precise" setting. Can this be changed?

I do not have this problem on any of my own machines. I go to Edit | Preferences | Display and Cursors and change the option to any Painting Cursor (like Full Size Brush Tip). The little icon in the window changes on the school's computers, but when I return to the workspace the brush is displayed as the precise crosshairs. Now the actual painting works fine, but the students are having a rough time visualizing where the paint is going to land. If this is something IT is going to have to fix for me, I am cool with that. I need this fixed by Thursday, March 5th so anyone with any ideas please let me know.

Your Obedient Servant,

Bob

Sorry if this is too basic, but have have you tried the "reset tool" or "reset all tools" (to the left of the brush tool at the top of the screen)? On the master computer? And failing that, on each workstations?

Hi Veejay,

Thanks for the suggestion. Yup, I tried that on the machines in the classroom. I will send a message to the IT guy, but I hope that making changes locally will work. Anybody using a centrally managed PSE installation?

Thanks,

Bob

I suppose it is unlikely that all of the student machines have their CAPS LOCK set...

Hi Bryon,

Sadly, I tried that:mad:. Keep those ideas coming in.

Cheers,

Bob

I found this on some support site:

"I've had the same problem. I've found if you simply change the brush preset to something else then it goes back to the normal cursor. Shutdown PSE and relaunch, it should be fine."

Hi Veejay,

I don't know why that should be, but it is worth a shot. On Monday I will be able to get with the IT guy if that should fail.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Everyone,

I am happy to report that this problem has been resolved. I cannot tell you how it was resolved because the machines at school are managed centrally by the IT staff. I came in this afternoon and tried a number of these computers and they just worked. The brush cursors displayed as normal circles. Thank you for your suggestions.

Cheers,

Bob
