Hey All,

I am following along in a tutorial by Daviskw ( AKA Butch) and I am stuck. I got as far as "Now we will combine the Multiply...Screen...and combo layers. I have Elements 7, he was giving directions to PE 3 & 4. How do I combine/merge these layers? Does "flatten layer" do it?:confused:

In your layers palette, highlight the layers you want to combine (click on each one while holding down the Ctrl key). Once they're selected, right-click and select Merge Layers.

There is no "merge layers". There is a "link layer" but it is not hightlighted.:confused:

I'm using PSE 7 as well, and there's definitely a "merge layers" option on mine. Ctrl-E is the keyboard shortcut for merge layers - maybe that would work. Could you post a screen print? That might help to sort out what's going on. By the way, using "flatten image" will merge all of your layers, not just the ones you want to merge.

I don't have v7 but you might want to look for a "Merge Visible" or a "Merge Down" command. Merge visible will merge all of the currently visible layers. Merge down will merge the active layer with the one below it.

Charlotte, make sure you have selected ALL the layers before right-clicking on one of them. Hold the CTRL key down as you click to select each adjacent layer, they should all appear to be gray "highlighted", like when you normally select an active layer.

After right clicking, at the bottom of the list should be the merge choices.

If you read a little further in the tutorial... it gives instructions for PE4 I believe...Those instructions will work in PE7.

I got as far as "rename the new layer "Softened Layer". I linked the combo, Screen, and Multiply by highlighting the layers (black background) and wound up with "Background" layer. Now you say to Click on the background layer. And then "Create New Layer " icon to add a blank layer over the background but below the Softened Layer." I merged everything so all I would have left is the background layer and the "Clipping Mask".
I must have left something out?:confused::(

Please help me get this resolved.
