Hi,

I have been using Elements 7 for a few weeks and have recently encountered a problem with the tools which has tried my patience somewhat.

Periodically, the tools stop working. I can still select any tool from the tool bar and change it's settings with the options bar. However, when I try to use the mouse to control the tool on the image all I get is the cursor for the hand tool.

Once of twice the problem has rectified itself after a few minutes but I usually have to restart Elements and/or my computer. After a few of these episodes nothing short of reinstalling Elements will unfreeze the tools. I have had to reinstall several times in the last few days.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated as I have no idea what is causing this fault and it is rendering the programme unusable.

Jim.

Jim,

Any tool cursor will change to the hand icon if you tap on the spacebar - make sure nothing is resting on the spacebar and see if that helps.

Bayla,

Thanks for your input. A computer uber-geek friend tracked the problem down to a compatibility issue with other software on my PC. Thankfully, everything seems to be fine now.

I'm afraid that I was a little premature in pronouncing the problem solved. It was fine for an hour or so then began to stick on the Hand Tool no matter which tool is selected.

I'm open to suggestions....

Please try resetting the editor preferences. For this do :
Launch welcome screen. Then press Alt + Ctrl + Shift and while keeping them presses click edit. Do not leave them till you see a dialog box saying to delete preferences. Click ok to delete preferences.
Also just below the pse brand icon at top left hand you will see a small black arrow fly out menu. Click on the same and click Reste Tools.
Try now and let me know your comments.

Hi Garry,

Thank you for your advice, it seems to have helped. Things are now much more stable. I'll bear it in mind if things begin to go awry again.
