View Full Version : Scrolling through fonts

I have accidently clicked on something that I shouldn't have and now I can't scroll through my list of fonts. I have to actually click and drag the little 'tab' on the font scroll bar to move through my fonts.
Before I 'screwed things up' I could just hover my cursor over the font names and use the scroll wheel on my mouse to move through my entire list of fonts very quickly and easily.
I sure hope this makes sense and that someone knows what I did that I shouldn't have done so that I can undo it!
Thanks so much for any help offered.

Which version of PSE are you using? I know that in PSE6 you can't scroll through the fonts using the scroll wheel - you have to highlight the font and then use the arrow keys, I thought it was the same for PSE7. Does using the arrow keys work for you?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using pse7.
I know that you can scroll through the fonts using the scroll wheel because I was able to before I clicked on something I shouldn't have. :(
Thanks again for any help offered.

Wendi,
I've been using 7 since it first hit the scene. Have never been able to use the scroll wheel to scroll through the fonts!! It's one of my pet hates.

Hi Kev
You can definitely use the scroll wheel in PSE7! I just don't know how to fix what I 'messed up'.
Hopefully somebody will be able to help us. :)

Wendi,
Well I don't have PSE6 but as far as I knew (like Kev), scrolling through the different fonts and also the font size with the scroll wheel was something that got changed with PSE6 (unfortunately) and I wasn't aware that it had been changed back for version 7.
Come on all you PSE7 experts, can you confirm this one way or the other?

Since text is a tool, can you reset it to change to the default?

Hi,
I've had PSE7 since last October and I can't scroll through the different fonts with the scroll wheel. I can do it only by using the scroll bar or the up/down keys.

I just tried scrolling the font list with the mouse wheel on PSE 5, 6, and 7 on Vista 32:
PSE 5: Yes
PSE 6: No
PSE 7: No
I tried both selecting and deselecting Edit > General Preferences > Zoom With Scroll Wheel.
I wonder if your mouse installed an "enhanced" driver that was doing this for you, e.g. the Microsoft Intellipoint software?

There is a way!! I know there is!! I just don't know what it is! http://www.scrappersguide.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif
When I first installed PSE7 the font list didn't scroll, but someone, somewhere told me how to do it and it has been 'scrolling along' for months, that is up until a couple of days ago when I clicked on something that I shouldn't have.
Someone must have the answer... I hope!
If anyone else has any ideas, please pass them on.
Thanks.

If you have a Logitech or Microsoft mouse, try reinstalling its software.

You should be able to scroll through the fonts with your Arrow Keys on your keyboard.
Select the Type tool
Type some text
With the cursor in your text, click the Type tool icon
Then click the font name showing in the font preview box in the options bar
Use the Up or Down arrow to scroll through the font list
Your typed text in the document will appear in each font as you scroll through the fonts

Diana,
Wendi knows about using the arrow keys but she's convinced that she has been using the scroll wheel to scroll like you used to be able to do in pre PSE6 versions.

I was definitely using the scroll wheel for the fonts in pse7 (just the same as I used in pse5) up until a couple of days ago when I messed things up.
There has to be simple fix for this, but I just have no idea what it is.

Wendi,
after a lot of googling I found out that PSE 7 in XP does allow scrolling of the fonts but not Vista,

I guess I've never used that feature. I have PSE7 on XP and can't seem to make the font list scroll with the mouse. Any tricks to doing that?:)

Wendi,
Do you have a Logitech or Microsoft mouse with their associated software installed? Or another brand of mouse with that manufacturer's software installed? These mouse drivers provide enhanced functionality and interact with Windows and applications in less-than-standard ways, and they may have been allowing you to scroll the font list.
If that's the case, then did you try uinstalling and reinstalling the software?

The advice about elements and 7 came from Linda Sattgast of The Scrapper's Guide.

Kev,
Was THIS (http://scrappersguide.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32128&postcount=7) the post you found over at Scrapper's Guide? If so it was referring to the fact that there was no scrollbar for some users of PSE7 using Vista: it wasn't about using the mouse scrollwheel to scroll through the fonts.
I still haven't found anything about scrolling through the font list using the mouse scrollwheel......
