I've just opened my gallery with my first image. It's just simple black and white and a subject that I love - my dog. Criticism/helpful comments on ways to improve would be most welcome. Thank you. :o

Very very nice Robyn.... love the gentleness of it. Suits your beautiful subject!
Would you mind sharing your method of conversion to B&W ? I'm not very happy with the B&W results I've gotten this far.
Thanks.

Hi Robyn-
What a friendly-looking dog! He looks like an Oliver. I really like the presentation. The oval with the drop shadow stands out nicely against the light background.
Now, I'm certainly no expert in either PSE or photography, so this is just my opinion, for whatever it's worth...Oliver looks a bit washed out. Did you start with a color file and make it b/w? If so, how did you do it? One tip I picked up from a couple books was to desaturate the color instead of removing it. There's probably more than one way to do this (like everything else), but I've used Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation. Then, slide the Saturation slider all the way to the left (or less, to inlcude some color). This seems to give a slightly better b/w conversion, to my eye.
You can also play around with the Levels of the picture (Enhance > Adjust Lighting > Levels). That's a nice tool for adjusting the brightness, constrast, and other related parts of an image.
Just a couple thoughts. I'm sure others will have more suggestions as well!
Have fun learning! I sure have...:)

Hi Kev,
I did actually use this site for the B & W conversion.
Mike,
Thank you for your helpful comments. I will take them onboard.:)
I've just realised that this thread really should be in the subscribers gallery section. Also could you tell me please how to change the gallery link from "user no. 276 etc" to something simple like "Robyn's gallery." Thank you.

Hi Robyn,
This question comes up a lot. Here are Wendy's instructions (she's helping even when she's on vacation):
Click on User CP at the top of the page then on Edit Signature and copy and paste this into it:
[333url=http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/viewgallery.php?user=xxxx] My Gallery[/url]
Where it says My Gallery type in what you want to show in your signature.
Now remove the 333 and where it says xxxx type in your user number. Make sure that you don't add any extra spaces ..
To find your user number ... click on Access my Gallery then click on "Share my Gallery" and you see the user number there.
Looking forward to seeing more of your pictures!

Hi Robyn
Great photo of Oliver. What font did you use? I haven't played around with black and white much but I sure like the way your photo turned out.

Robyn,
I love the photo. It immediately caught my eye in the gallery this morning. I used to have a beautiful dog just like yours. Nice job!

Terrific job Robyn! Glad you finally got brave enough to post. I knew you would. :D Also Oliver is a gorgeous dog. Of course setters and goldens have a lot of similarities in looks so I could be a bit bias. :)

What font did you use?
The font was Brush Script MT.
Thanks Kayser for help with editing the signature, and thanks everyone for your encouraging comments.
