I have PSE 4.0 and organizer went south on me! Rebooted my computer and reinstalled Elements and still no work. When I click on Organizer from the Welcome page or within Editor (and when I click on "Create" from within Editor) I get a message that says "...is not responding. It may still be loading or waiting for a response from you." I hit ok or just let it sit and and Organizer quits trying to load.

Anyone have any ideas? Or, what is another good browser to organize images that is compatible with PSE 4.0?

Thanks for your assistance...
Carl

Carl I would try to reset your preferences to see if that helps.

To reset your preferences while you are starting Editor from your program icon, hold down the Cntl, Alt and shift very quickly as it is starting. Gotta be quick.

When you get the dialog box asking if you want to reset the preferences say yes.

Let us know if this cures it - remember be quick while editor is starting.:)

Thanks for your help...but that didn't work. I tried it several times but all I kept getting was a dialogue box that said "Reset Settings."
Still working on an answer...

Mike is the PSE 4 and Organizer guru around here but he often works out of town during the week. I hope he will pick this up when he returns or perhaps someone else has some ideas for you. :)

Carl,

Are you sure there isn't a dialogue box hidden somewhere on your screen? This happens to me almost everyday with the organizer, because it's asking me if I want to do a backup or be reminded next time, and I have other stuff up, and I don't see the little popup.

Just a thought.

Carl,

Sorry for the delay in getting to this... I have been away.

This has happened to me and it was caused by the reason that Kay suggested - Organizer was prompting me to make backups of the Catalog. To stop this go into Organizer Preferences (Edit > Preferences) and under Files uncheck the box "Automatically prompt to back up files and Catalog".

Let me know if this helps...

Thanks for the tip, Mike, on turning that feature off. I haven't done much with preferences; I just jumped right into elements and started trying things. It would probably make my life easier if I checked some of this stuff out!

Hi Kay,

I've experienced this same problem. I almost always get that message, but my organizer normally opens fairly quickly afterwards. I was operating on 256 megs of RAM before I bought Elements and I had many instances where the catalogue failed to open. I upgraded to 512 and I'm having far fewer problems. The upgrade was only $56 and it made a world of difference. If my little Sony laptop would take more RAM, I'd upgrade to a Gig.

Good luck.

Norm,

I got an early Christmas present- an upgrade to 1 GIG (also on my Sony laptop) and things are running great!

Kay,

Oh sweet!! I'll bet that's nice.

I was surprised to learn that my Sony Vaio won't take more than 512. It's only 2 years old. I'm going to trade this baby in for a new one early in the new year.

Cheers.

The other Preference setting to adjust (also under Organizer > Edit > Preferences > Files) is "Automatically Search For and Reconnect Missing Files" - this could also give you the same message when loading Organizer. Basically I have turned all the "automatically" do anything preferences off.

On the subject of RAM, although 256Mb is quoted as the minimum, PSE won't really run with anything less than 512Mb. My Dell laptop has 512Mb and it copes ok with PSE4, but I do most work on a desktop with 1Gb.
