BE CREATIVE #67

I do like sketch effects and have tried quite a few variations. One I like that is particularly flexible in being able to tweak the end result can be found here:

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/ss/photosketch.htm

Don't be put off by the fact that there are 10 pages of it. There's very little on each page and lots of ads (sorry) and it's quite quick to do. You can make it easier to follow if you copy and paste the actual steps from each page into a word processor. One thing to watch out for is to make sure you invert the layers that have to be inverted - if you don't you'll get some odd results. On the last page are some suggestions on how to modify the results - those are just a start - don't be afraid to experiment. I've attached a screen shot of the layers you finish up with and the layer names indicate what was done with each layer. The tutorial is written for a fairly small image pixel-wise - the practice image is 800x600 pixels - if you start with a larger image and don't downsize first you may need to change the recommended settings for some of the steps.

A couple of ones I tried. First one followed the tutorial pretty much as described the second started with a larger image and I changed some of the settings as I went along and cropped and downsized at the end.

10 different pages of instruction tested my ability not to miss a step...which I did a time or 3. Have to play around with this tutorial more to learn what to 'tweak'and what not to 'tweak'

This process neutralizes a photo. I'll have to mess with the filters to retain more of the colors. Has lots of possibilities though. Thanks!

Thanks, Tony. I had to tweak some of the layers to get more color. Your images look great!

Tony W. Yea for you! :D You posted the sizes and dimensions that the tut was used for this. I've been pushing for members who post tutorials to do just that. Makes it so much easier for all of us. THANK YOU! Okay, I'll give it a try and post later.

I did another one and posted the original photo, one following the tutorial using the extra top color photo as you did, and one with a gradient adjustment layer at the top. I put all 3 in an animation and it worked!

Thanks Tony for the learning curve, I liked playing with this tut.

I thought mine looked better as sepia tonings, but apart from that I followed the tut.

Despite ten pages of instructions I now think I know the tutorial by heart - I tried it out on ten () different images until I found one I liked!!

I used Vivid Light instead of Hard Light and I added the Smudge Stick Filter on the Emboss Layer to add a little more contrast and color.

Hi Tony,

I love sketch effects. This was a really good one. Tried it out on the Blues Brothers who were performing at our local indoor flea market. ;)

What a wonderful tut! Thanks so much!

Here is my contribution. I dropped the opacity to 50% on all the levels except for the background.
