text won't type in correct layer

I am using Elements for Mac on a macbook pro. I am working on a sign project with a number of text layers. When I create a new layer and want to type on it, it jumps down to a previous text layer and jumps into the text lines on that layer. I have tried resetting the text tool. Also tried closing out of the file and reopening it. Any suggestions?

This does tend to happen when you try to ut text layers near other text layers ... just create the new text layer in a different place and then use the move tool to reposition it :)

Yup - happens to me too. The only answer I found is Wendy's - I move far away from other text layers to add a new one. What ticks me is when the text tool changes the font for previous text layers when I don't want it to. Moving away and clicking first - stops this from happening, too.

thanks! I will try that. I have been able to keep it from changing the font by creating a new layer before I change the font size.
