slow "generating thumbnails" in Elements 6

I recently uninstalled Elements 6 not desiring to save any of the photos in it having transferred the photos to another computer. I reinstalled 6 transferring the files from Elements 5 which was still installed. Now after I load the organizer it takes another minute or so to go through a process of "generating thumbnails" before I can use it. I never had this happen before and I have been using Elements for years. I am using a PC and have almost 6000 items. I had even more but after significantly reducing the number there was no difference.

Any help! :confused:
