I am unable to set the hue-jitter option on the paint brush (PSE5) so that the only two colors to appear are the foreground color and the background color. Every setting I try gives me blends of the two colors. Anyone know the secret here???:(

CEHARRIS3,

I know of no way to get a binary color result using Hue Jitter -- there are always multiple shades between the Foreground and Background colors.

Thanks for the response. It seems odd to me, but I guess it's true! Love your pics, by the way:)

CEHARRIS3,

I've done a bit of browsing about this and have learned that you should, indeed, expect intermediate colors when using Hue Jitter.

Thanks for the nice comment!

Hi ...

I have been experimenting in CS3 and it seems to work in the same way as Elements ...

Wendy,

I have observed that PSE's "Hue Jitter" acts like CS4's "Foreground/Background Jitter", while there is no functional parallel for CS4's "Hue Jitter" in PSE.

Does that hold true for earlier CS versions, in your experience?

Hi Byron ...

I just checked it in CS3 and Foreground Background Jitter gives you shades of the foreground background colours but Hue Jitter adds in shades of all colours ..

Its not very easy working out what exactly is going on ... I even got out my Photoshop Bible but couldn't find much in there about it either ??

However I did find Photoshop Killer (161) Tips by Matt where he explains it all :)

I at least feel vindicated that I did not ask a "dumb question"!! It seem to generate a lot of interest!:):)

It made me investigate ... and it turned out a lot more complex than I originally thought

Wendy,

So PSCS has two jitter settings... "Foreground/Background" and "Hue".

PSE has one jitter setting... "Hue."

But the PSE Hue Jitter does not act like the PSCS Hue Jitter -- it acts like the PSCS Foreground/Background Jitter.

I submit that the feature is mis-named in PSE!!

Can you get that fixed? :D
