Hi, I am running PSE6 on vista....I had backed up all my pics and my haard drive crashed.
So I have set up and loaded pse 6 again and am trying to get my pics of the disks. (Some of these backups are from pse 5) When I click get photos it tells me they are already there.....
Do I need to do a restore instead? And if I do will it mess up my pics and catalog that I have set up already?
Does this make any sense? I really need some direction on how to get these other pics back on my pc......

Thanks Alisa

How did you do the backup? Did you use a Windows program, or PSE's Backup Catalog command?

When you set up PSE6 after the crash, how did any photos get into the Organizer if your hard disk crashed? What did you do?

I always backed up using pse s back up ....
after the crash I set pse 6 back up and began using it uploading my photos ect........I am just now wanting to load some of my older pics into the organizer from my back up discs....so I can use them. And it won't let me just pick some and load them...it keeps saying they are already there????

thanks!! Alisa

Best to use PSE's Restore Catalog command, this will restore the catalog that you had when your hard disk crashed. Best to get that up and running properly, and then add any new photos to the catalog. You don't want two catalogs.

Is there any way for me to just pull certain pics from the old? I really don't need all of them?
And if I do restore the old catalog will it delete the new one?

Thank so much for your help!!

There is no way to restore just a portion of your pictures from the backup. You must restore all of them (but then you can delete the ones you really don't want if you must)

As far as deleting your existing catalog ... I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. I can't say that I ever tried restoring when I had an existing catalog. Maybe someone else can chime in. But ... if you rename (or move) your existing catalog, I'm pretty sure you are safe then.
