I was looking for a book to use with Elements 7. I have "The Missing Manual: for 5 and love it but I wanted one that was different and has techniques new to me.
Friday I was in Barnes and Noble and saw a book I had not seen before: "Advanced Photoshop Elements 7 for Digital Photographers" by Philip Andrews. There is so much new (to me) info in here! He talks about using some layers from Photoshop in Elements and has made available some that he has made on the book's web site. For instance, there is one for converting a photo to black and white as you would in Photoshop. I'm looking forward to downloading them and using them

Phillip Andrew's books are great. I have his PSE 5.0 A-Z, which talks about all the tools, effects, filters, etc. And also his PSE5 and PSE6 Maximum Performance books as well.

The Andrews book is excellent as is another by Mark Galer. I have the version 4 editions of each and much of that info carries over into the version 7 editions. The Missing Manual is very good and a virtual must-have, but because it lacks any real progressive editing techniques, it is not the best tutorial for learning photo editing in my opinion. A great time-saver that can point out where just about anything is located and it offers a quick rundown on many of the Elements features, but overall the Missing Manual is oversold as a teaching tool in my opinion. The best tutorial book on Elements 7 for users who are already somewhat familiar with Elements, from having used prior editions and so forth, is likely to be Photoshop Elements 7 for Digital Photographers written by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski. It is due to be released on March 14. I base this opinion on the version 6 edition of the book which I own.

These are just my opinions of course. I have been using Elements 4 for a year now and was in Paint Shop Pro for some time before that. I feel very comfortable with photo editing techniques learned from the 21 Photoshop and Elements tutorials on my bookshelves and from other sources such as magazine tutorials as well.
