How can I see my before & after picture side by side in Elements 6, in full edit mode? Thanks for any help

Do mean after making different changes, or while you are doing them?
For instance, when using the Convert to Black and White option, you have a Before and After view of your picture, then you can see what happens when you manipulate the various sliders.
If you are talking about Before/After after a whole series of changes, one way to do this is to make a duplicate of your Background Layer before doing any changes, and then make only changes to your Background Layer Copy then you can compare the two.

Another way of see Side-by-Side views of your picture is :
Go to File >> Duplicate. This will make a duplicat of your image by adding copy to the name.
You can minimize it and bring it up for comparison when needed.
