I have many JPG files where I find in the XMP section, three set of datas.
One for PSE7, one for PSE4 and one for PSE3. And each of those have different keywords etc.

Is it possible to keep only one set of XMP for PSE7? How can I delete the other two? What software?

That sounds wierd. The most authoritative tool for examining and changing metadata is "exiftool", a free command-line program. It's a little daunting to learn, and there's also a windowed version "exiftoolgui" that doesn't provide all the options but is easy to use.

I will look closely at those two. But my situation would seem to be related to the fact that writing new keywords won't delete the old ones. I founded a thread on this problem of what would seem a problem in all PSE.

Why don't you post one of the photos at www.pixentral.com (http://www.pixentral.com) (free) and I can take a look at its metadata?

PSE never deletes keywords from photos' metadata. If you remove a keyword tag from a photo in the Organizer and do File > Write Keyword Tag, that keyword doesn't get deleted from the metadata.

Den,

The photo you posted has corrupted metadata. I used “exiftool” to look at it, and as you observed, there are multiple occurrences of XMP fields such as “XMP Toolkit” for which there should only be one occurrence. If you open the photo in the PSE Editor, it complains about the corrupted metadata, and if you save a copy from the Editor, it saves it without any XMP fields.

My suggestion is that you use “exiftool” to delete the corrupted XMP fields from the photos. Then you can do File > Write Keyword Tag again from PSE to get the catalog metadata added back to the photos.

You can download and learn about “exiftool” from:

http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ (http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/)

It takes a while to learn it, but the command to delete all the XMP fields from a file is:
exiftool –xmp= file
Because the files have corrupted metadata, there isn’t a guarantee that any tool will correctly update the files. “exiftool” makes backup copies of any files it modifies, but you’ll want to carefully check its work.

Thanks John; your comments and suggestions were very appreciated.

The bad news for me, is that I have many of this kind of pictures :(

You can use "exiftool" to make that change to an entire folder hierarchy of files:
exiftool -xmp= -r folder
