I'm trying to follow a tutorial about feathering and placing multiple photos together. I make selection with the Marquee tool and select feather and thats ok, next I go Select>Inverse and backspace to remove the background and then deselect. I should end up with a feathered selection surrounded by the checkerboard background. But it keeps putting the foreground/background color there for the background . Which means when I drag the background image together with the feather selection it shows the background color instead of being transparent. Which step is missing here ?

Tony, you may need to convert the background layer to a regular layer to get the transparency. Hold Alt and double click on the background layer & it becomes Layer 0. Then do your vignette process. Hopefully this helps.

Hi Tony,

The step you are missing here is Feather. After you make the selection and invert it, before hitting the delete key, you should add a feather. This is done by:
Select -> Modify -> Feather. Add a value of around 50, this actually depends on the size of the file you are working on as well as the size of the selection. Play around with it to get the number that suits you.

Hit the delete key and you are done.

Hope it helps.
