In trying to back up my catalog, I get a message that 155 files need to be reconnected. When I try to do so, I get a screen that says it's "an unsupported reconnect operation". When I look in PSE6 under the organizer, I do find these photos intact but can't do much with them. Also what I notice is that the difference between the old file name i.e.
DSC_068.JPG is what is shown on the left side and the right has DSC_068.JPG^^ there are extra characters after the JPG. Also, there are some that have 0 under the "Files Missing Catalog" and some that have a 1 preceding the file name and location. This is all under the area where it is prompting me to reconnect either individually or as all if I were to select all. I'm unsuccessful in doing either one.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't believe that I moved any of these files at all much less using anything else outside of PSE.

In trying to do research, I found a free download called RegCure. I d/l it and it fixed 1 item under the free status but has found over 700 problems and can be fixed if I d/l and pay $29.95 for the full version. This site is suppose to scan, repair and optimize the computer as well as fix .jpg links etc. problems. Is there another alternative program that is better?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Susana,

I’m wondering if your catalog is corrupted. Some initial troubleshooting:

1. Before things possibly get worse, make a manual backup copy of your catalog file. In the Organizer, find the catalog folder via Help > System Info. Then exit the Organizer, and in Windows Explorer, find that folder, make a copy of the file “catalog.psedb”, and place the copy somewhere safe (e.g. on your Desktop).

2. Try rebooting and then restart the Organizer. Does the same thing happen?

3. Can you post a screenshot of what you see?

4. Restart the Organizer and do File > Reconnect > All Missing. Do you get similar behavior?

5. In the Organizer, in Display > Thumbnail View, find and select one of the suspect photos. Right-click it and select Properties. In the Properties window, next to the yellow folder icon, what is the exact full path of one of the photos? Can you find that photo in Windows Explorer at the same location?
