Hello!
I just installed Elements 7 yesterday and I played around with it a little bit.
Today I tried to scan something on my HP All-in-one Printer and the scanner wouldn't work.
I've been using another photo editing program for several months now with no adverse side effects. So I have the feeling that it's something to do with my new Elements 7.
I have a Compaq Presario laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit on it.
Does anybody have any good suggestions, tips, ideas? I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you!

Did you get the "HP CUE-Scanning Flow Component has stopped working" error?
My HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-one printer/scanner/copier on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 has had the scanner quit on me a couple of times. I did a reinstall of the drivers and that seemed to work.
It was the "Solutions Center" that was the main problem Digging into the programs file and finding the scanner executable file let me bypass the solution center and scan directly.
HP has a user forum but it is not very active. It is worth searching to see if your problem has popped up before. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board?board.id=Scan
I have elements 5 but I don't usually scan from elements so I don't have any experience with that.

You might uninstall and then reinstall the printer driver. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when upgrading to PSE5, I could not access my Epson 4990 through PSE5, but could access it through windows explorer. I did an uninstall and then a reinstall and everything was fine after that. You might try that and see if that is the case here.

Hi Karin, thanks for your comment and suggestion.
No, I didn't receive any error messages at all. My HP printer is the Deskjet F4280, All-in-one printer. When I click on the Solutions Center to start my scan it won't open.
After I came looking for help here and not really finding it, I contacted an IT person who came through remotely and checked some stuff and he couldn't get it to start either.
We decided that I should uninstall the thing and then reinstall it, and we thought that that would do the trick.
So I just finished doing that... uninstalling and then reinstalling it, and the problem is still there. I still cannot open the Solution Center to use the scanner.
I might have to place a call to HP tomorrow, see if I can get some help that way.
Thanks for the link to the HP user forum. :)

Hi Ric,
Yeah, I just finished uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.
But after all that, the Solution Center is still not opening up to allow me to use the scanner. But I'm glad that worked for you, though.
*sigh* :o
Anyway, I really don't want to have the scanner open in Elements, I just want to be able to use it and then grab my scanned picture from my Pictures folder, and work with it in either Elements, or my other photo editing program.
Thanks for the suggestion. :)

This is the scanner executable I found. I made a shortcut to it on my desktop to bypass the solutions center when it wasn't working.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpiscnapp.exe"
If it is the solution center that is giving you problems you might want to try to find your scanner app and open it directly.

Hi Karin,
Thanks so much for your asisstance. However, now I have bigger problems.
Thursday, I called an HP Rep expert in Printer problems, and after 3 1/2 hours of trying, we still could not make the scanner work!
He came in remotely, and did a bunch of stuff. He also deleted a couple of files saying that I didn't need them. He disabled ALL MSFT programs, uninstalled my F4280 printer saying that the way he was doing it was going to be ok, and then re-installed the software again.
Well, guess what? Yep, you guessed it, more problems came up!
We kept getting a msg that some file was missing. Well, after all this time I was exhausted from the stress. I told him I was going to do either one of three things: do a System Restore, uninstall/reinstall the F4280 software again, return the printer to BestBuy (I always buy a 2 year warranty thing.)
I know he felt bad that he couldn't fix the problem, but I said I understood and I know that we did everything under the sun to try to fix it. He enabled all the MSFT programs again before we disconnected. He said he was going to leave the case number open, just in case I needed to call back.
Well, yesterday I did a System Restore to two weeks before the scanner problem and that only made things worse. Now, every time I start my computer I get an Installing msg, and it keeps wanting me to insert a disk... something about a Tray App missing... *big sigh*
So, last night I thought I'll uninstall this thing and re-install it again, see if it works. The printer will not uninstall !! (I have Windows Vista Home Premium) so I went to the Uninstill a Program and no matter how many times I clicked on the "uninstall" button, nothing happened!
aaaarrgghhhh
Anyway I just wanted to come by and say Thank you for trying to help me. I'm going to have to either call HP back, see if someone else can help me, or just take it back to BestBuy. This time I will be getting a different printer and it will NOT be HP.
Thanks again!

~ Oh, when I did the System Restore, my Elements 7 was deleted. So I'll have to reinstall it again. Maybe I didn't do the installation correct and this caused the scanner problem to begin with?
I really prefer NOT to connect my printer to Elements, but there were NO instructions on how to proceed in regards to printer/scanners. And, checking the HELP info did not give me any clarity on that either. Oh well.

How frustrating for you.
Up till this Printer/Scanner/Copier I have always had the best luck with HPs. Lexmark was the most frustrating. I liked my Epson but the ink nozzles clogged up too often. It's been awhile since I tried a Canon. Next one up may be an Epson again or maybe the Kodak I saw on that infomercial. Hopefully the printers I have will continue to work for some time yet to come.

I recently bought a Canon MP980 AIO and I love it. It will also scan negatives and slides. The only feature it lacks, which I don't need, is fax capability. I got it at Costco for $180. Ratings for the machine were excellent and convinced me to buy.
Installation was very straightforward for standard USB use. I have not set it up for ethernet or wireless use and am not planning to.
