active layer is empty

I am on the "Quick Fix" section of Elements 7 where I have a "before" and "after" photo. When I try to sharpen, I get a pop-up that says the active layer is empty. What do I do?:(

Like Byron said : check in the layers palette if the correct layer is highlighted.

Go and click on the move tool. The first checkbox is for Auto select layer.
There are two types of people.
One group loves this function.
The other group never ever uses it.
I'm somewhere in between.

The thing is to be aware of this function and how it works.
It will select the layer IT thinks you want.
If there is transparency on the layer it will select the layer beneath.

Just check in the layer palette that you are on the correct layer.
