DX, what a stupid move imo..
they've finally gotten their foot into the FX market and they produce another cropped lens

FX lenses can be used on both formats, but w/ having to lose valuable acreage the FX guys'll be passing on this for sure even if it is AF-S

Considering that Nikon has huge installed base of DX format bodies/users out there the DX format is not going away any time soon. For those with DX format bodies, yearning for a "normal" prime, the new 35mm fits the bill, and while not the fastest lens in the stable at 1.8 it is a lot better than what typical 2.8 zooms have been able to deliver.

Nikon jut released the new 50mm 1.4 AF-S aimed squarely at FX bodies (but also very servicable on DX bodies). It is a stellar performer, and I suspect the 35mm f/1.8 will also fill the bill for DX body owners. It holds promise of being a very nice lens especially at $199.

Unlike some other companies out there, Nikon is not turning there backs on any of the older Loyal purchasers. The D40 line of cameas, and the other bodies that are in the same boat for Auto Focus. I think the newer D60 and D50 are also in the same boat but I'm not sure.

I've been hearing a lot of great comments and articles about this new 50mm f:1.4 and its becoming one of the fastest selling Primes for a very reasonable price. If its out of the price range, the rumor mill has the 50mm f:1.8 as a drop cheaper and almost the same quality piece of Glass.

I think it's a great decision. I shoot DX, as does my son and daughter. My daughter has the D60, so the AFS is great. The price seems spot on for a new lens. This lens might just have pushed another further down the wish list!
