Superimpose maps

I occasionally give travel talks and I would like information on how to superimpose maps to the same scale to show relative size or distances.

Do you mean you have an image, and would like to include an in-set image which is a map? Or would you like to have the map, perhaps, be the background (faded?) with images of the locations placed upon it? Or do you want one map laid over top of another?

I reckon that whatever you're picturing would be possible, but more detail will get you better answers.

Clarification: I am looking to lay one map over another to the same scale so that both maps show and the audience can readily see the relative size and/or distances.

So you want to see Map A through Map B? It can certainly be done by pasting a copy of Map B into a new layer of the Map A image, then changing that layer's opacity until you have the look you want.

As far as scale, you'll have to adjust that manually -- probably using Free Transform would be a good starting point.

Sounds like a very interesting project. You may find the grid (View>check grid) to be helpful in aligning the two maps to scale. The grid can be configured via Edit>preferences>grid. The rulers can be configured via Edit>Preferences>units&rulers - e.g in., cm.

OOPS!!!... I have been talking out of school. I just realized that your query is posted in the "Photoshop.com" sub-forum - and I have absolutely NO experience with Photoshop.com. All of my comments were made with the usage of pc-based Photoshop Elements in mind.

My apologies.

I hope that someone with Photoshop.com experience will offer guidance with your query.

I have done something similar using Google Earth - to generate the map views I wanted - because you can then set the scale the same. The tricky thing is getting the opacity so it shows what you want clearly enough. There are other ways and maps than can be used (I love messing with maps)
