View Full Version : Saving presets

Hello all,
Is there a way to save presets as in PS CS2?
For example, if I want to create a 12 x 12 page for scrapbooking... can I create a 12x12 preset so I don't have to always make one "from scratch"?
Or is that feature exclusive only to PS and not its younger brother? :)
Thanks much!

If you are using the same setups, I think what you might want to do is create an action for that in CS2. That way you don't have to reinvent the wheel every time, and if set up right, you can leave room for adjustments even within the action itself. It's not hard to do. Check your help files for instructions.

Hi Gene,
Thanks very much for answering. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, I need to set up an action in CS2 and then somehow get it over to PSE?
Looking over my original question, I can see I was not very clear. :)
I want to use PSE 6.0... but I'm wondering if there's a way to save presets... so that if, for example:
1. I create a preset titled "scrapbook page".
2. It has dimensions 12 x 12 inches with a resolution of 300.
I close the program.
Next time I start PSE, I simply choose "scrapbook page" from the drop-down Preset menu and it will load the dimensions and resolution for me.
Was that any clearer? Often I know what I'm meaning in my head but can't get it down in words precisely! :)
Thanks again!

My bad...I missed the "as in PS CS2". I am sure there is a way in PSE6 to save presets, but as I don't have PSE6 installed, I can't help you there. I mostly use LR and CS3 (more LR than CS3) and haven't used my PSE5 in a while.
I'm sorry.....:o
You may want to check out Graffi's Workshop (http://www.graficalicus.com/graffishop/). He has add-ons for PSE that can extend its capabilities and may be able to give you what you're looking for. And others in the forum can help you more than I can in this regards.

I'm pretty sure it can be done and there's a thread here that explains how to do it. I'll look around and see if I can find it. Incidentally PSE7 does have a Scrapbooking size in the drop down (12x12 at 300 ppi)

Caution - don't use the text file in this post as you'll lose some of the other presets (it was written for an earlier version) but you should be able to find the file and edit it. I haven't done it so you're on your own if you want to experiment.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your trouble! :)
I wonder why there is not a "Save Preset" button with PSE as there is with PS CS2. Does PSE7 have that button? It's a wonderful feature.
Perhaps I'll just need to get my lazy rear back into PS CS2! ;)
Thanks again! :)

Hi Ted ...
Adobe leave out lots of things from Elements ... I guess that if they added all these things in then no one would buy the full version of Photoshop :)

Wendy from a business point of view, i understand them leaving things out. But they sure cant make my penny squeak any harder. I have pse4 and i am so happy even knowing there are limitations.

Thank you all for your input. I'm just now seeing some of your responses! :)
I don't think my question was answered (or I'm tired and not reading that it was! LOL)...but does PSE 7 allow people to save their presets?
Again...so if I regularly create (for example) 3.5 in. x 11.8 in (not sure why...but let's go with that LOL)...
Could I, in PSE 7 mind you... save that as "banner canvas".
So...then next time I need that size, instead of entering those dimensions... "banner canvas" would be an option?
Am I being clear? Perhaps I'm not wording my question correctly. :)

Hi Ted ...
PSE 7 doesn't have a button to do this ... only Photoshop does.
However Tony in his message gave you a link to a workaround :)
