Hi
I had PE5 on my computer which i played with a bit [ Senior Citizen not very computer savvy ], and have just installed PE7. I have managed to transfer all my files from PE5 but it did not transfer the few plugins that i had.
Is there a simple way to transfer them rather than having to look them up and download them again.
Thank you for any help and info.
Beejay.

BJ,

You might want to check, in some cases the pllug ins for 5 wont upload or transfer to another program such as 7, I think the easy way is to copy the plugin you been using in 5, and then paste it into 7, that is after its known that it will work in the new program.

Thanks gbeck
Unfortunately i have never had to do anything like that before. Whenever i have installed [ i only had 4 plugins ] it seemed to find the correct plugin folder automatically.
If yourself or anyone could give me step by step instructions i would be most grateful.
I'd me most surprised if you ever had such a basic question before, but we all have to start somewhere.
Thanks again.
Beejay.

I guess you could go to the ele 5 folder and copy the action, and then go over to the ele 7 folder, and paste, if they are compatable , all is well, if not then the wont work in new program. Graffi, who has a web site here has the easiest way to install, check it out , www.graficious.com (http://www.graficious.com)

Hi ...

Are the files you are trying to install plugins or actions ?? ... plugins and actions install in different ways ??

The easiest way to tell is to check what the file ending is .. :)

They are Plugins. I have managed to install Essentials 2 from OnOne software and Virtual Photographer i am having trouble with Virtual Painter. I have followed the Wizard instructions but it tells me it cannot find PE7 on my computer, and even the extra info that they gave me for PE5 by going to Edit> Preferences> Plugins and Scratch Disks and then enable additional plugins folder [ which worked in PE5 ] does not work. When i get this far in PE7 it tells me that there are no folders although i have installed it to C/Program files/ adobe/Photoshop Elements 7/Plugins.
I am a bit confused as i seem to have it installed but i am unable to find it.

Hi Beejay,

To copy the plug-in files from PSE5 to PSE7, you have to find the folder they are stored in. To find that in PSE5....

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins

Click in these steps to get to the folder:
C:
Program Files
Adobe
Photoshop Elements 5.0
Plug-Ins

Look for the files that end in .8bf
If you find the ones you want to transfer, hold the Ctrl key down and click on each of them.
press Ctrl-C to copy them.

Now use the same method to go to the plug-ins folder in PSE7 here:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins

When you get that folder open, press Ctrl-V to paste the copied files.

Restart Elements, then you should find your transferred plug-ins under the Filters menu.

If some of them don't work, they may be ones that have to be installed from the original executable file you originally downloaded.

Hope this helps.

Hi Diana,

I am not sure about PSE 5 but for PSE 7, i guess the plugins should be placed under "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\Filters" folder vs "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins". And then they show up in PSE on the next launch.

Hi Pri,

Diana is correct in her instructions. I have PSE7 and all the third-party plug-ins I installed went into the PSE Plug-ins folder, not in the Filter folder. When you get a plug-in which needs to be installed manually, the instructions will guide you to copy and paste in that folder. If the plug-in has its own installer, that's where it places the file.
