The south-east came to a stop for this

Much to the surprise of my friends' Norwegian and Danish students, transport in Kent and London came to a halt, schools - and even enclosed shopping centres were closed. Apparently it is the worst snow here for 18 years - predicted, yet not prepared for! I remember frequent snowfalls worse than this years ago - and those in Scotland, Northern Europe and Canada would cope - why don't we?

Same thing happens in the Seattle, WA, USA, and Leominster, MA, USA areas too. May have something to do with utter dependence on cars, which are much more dangerous in weather like that.
