I'm having trouble following the tutorial "Making a template for displaying photographs ". When I get to step 8 and follow along, I go edit>clear and nothing happens. It prompts you to choose all or undo history, I've tried both but it doesnt cut out the cut outs. Is some step missing ?

Tony,
This must be a Mac vs. Windows thing... on Windows, Edit > Clear clears the clipboard and/or History contents, and does nothing to your image, as you have seen. Instead of Edit > Clear, you should be able to just tap the Delete key to knock out the contents of your solid color layer in the shape of your cut-out selections.
Can a Mac user verify that Edit > Clear operates differently than it does as I have noted for Windows?

Bryon, Thanks for your reply. I'll try what you said to do tonight if time pemits. Sometimes its frustrating being a beginner at this because I know the answer is simple but your mind is racing trying to think of so many things .

Hi ..
I think that the tutorial was originally done in PSE2 or PSE3 and back in those days the command to delete something was indeed Edit>Clear (it still is in Photoshop).
... during one of the version changes they changed it to Edit>Delete
They also changed Layer>Rasterize to Layer>Simplify :)

PS ... Sorry I am not able to post much at the moment but I am recovering from surgery

Wendy, Thanks for your reply and taking care of yourself is much more important than improving my photoshop skills. Once again....Thanks
