Animation Background

I have created a 13 layer PSD file that will be converted to GIF animation and the MOV file for use in a slideshow presentation. I am looking for some information on adding a background to the completed animation.

Do I do this before the generation of the GIF in PS3 or does it need to be generated in each of the 13 layers prior to GIF creation. I also was interested if a GIF or converted to MOV file can be overlayed into a photo or other interesting background.

Any information or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to add a common background to 13 frames you have already created? Each layer has to represent the total content of an individual frame -- like the frames in a strip of film. It isn't as easy as it could be to fix what you have, but it isn't terribly hard. What you need to do is add the background to each layer. That is:

1) create the background as the bottom layer in the stack to make sure it looks as you want it.
2) duplicate the background you created for as many frames as you have
3) move the layers below each frame and merge them.

Have a look at the jumpman.psd included with the Elements 3 install. If you have my book ( The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 3 (http://aps8.com/hppe3.html) ) there are several animation files, and instruction for how to make animation work.

You are correct in the point I was making. I will see what I can do based on your suggestions and also get a copy of your book.

I am somewhat new at this and tring to get add some extra features, like animation, to my personal slideshows that I record to DVD.
