"Before" already had basic exposure, WB, and colour correction in Apple Aperture, but no sharpening:

"After", with selective high pass sharpening about the face and hands, then put thru Imagenomic RealGrain (Portra 160 filter):

The improvement is more noticeable in larger output, but I can see how at this size some may prefer "before"!

Great before and after, but how could you go wrong with this face?? So adorable!

Les, beautiful baby.
I think you made too many corrections.
You lost the beautiful smooth baby skin.
Here's a version with just a little Shadow/Highlight adjustment.
Hope you don't mind.

Oh what a sweetie ...

... but I do agree with Frank about the skin :)

In the larger original the eyes are distractingly OOF so I still want to fix that.

Here is another "after" with high pass sharpening applied JUST to the t-zone around the eyes to nose tip. I did without the Portra film filter this time. I just noticed that shot was taken under a bright lamp at F1.6, so the ISO is only 100. I agree now that it is a shame to roughen up a very smooth original:

With all the various comments, suggestions, and even interpretive edits, I thought, why not contribute to the discussion...
