Can anyone out there who is using CS3 and Vista tell me if you are experiencing any problems? I'd like to buy a new computer and have Vista on it but want to know beforehand if there are any issues.

Hi Norma
I have heard many horror stories about Vista so I won’t make personal recommendations.
BUT
My own personal experience has been no problems to speak of. I have had CS3 and now I have CS4 all with no problem.
If you have a lot of old programs that are critical to you I would check to see if they have Vista updates, patches or new drivers. I did have a few programs that would not install without special Vista installation patches from their websites. There are a few that just will not work in Vista... I had that problem with Elements 3.0.
Now that Vista has been out for awhile you hear fewer and fewer complaints of compatibility.
Just a note...Photoshop CS4 supports openGL... it really speeds up Photoshop by using memory on the video card. So make sure you get a good card with plenty of memory

Hi Norma-
I also ran CS3 (and now CS4) on Vista for months with no problems whatsoever. In fact, I haven't had any problems with Vista thus far.
Also, I'm moving this thread to the General Elements board, just to keep things somewhat organized. It doesn't exactly relate to Elements, but it's a close. ;)

First, thanks for moving it Mike...I thought I posted in the Photoshop section but must not have.
I'm so glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with Vista. I have a Dell XPS 400 with 4 gig ram, 250gb drive, a new video card, but I still find CS3 isn't fast enough for me.
I haven't upgraded to CS4 yet...didn't think it had enough new bells/whistles for me to upgrade. I do remember it mentioning faster speed so I will definitely remember about the video card when I buy.
Thanks a lot guys! I haven't been on this site in a while...but you were really prompt with the answers. I really appreciate it.

I've run CS3 and Vista for a long time now with absolutely no problems.

There is no longer a reason to be afraid of Vista over XP. Vista since SP1 is a mature and stable OS. I build computers as a hobby and resisted using Vista until around Thanksgiving. But I finally caved in and built this computer on Vista Home Premium 32 bit. After that I have built a few more for friends and family using both Vista 64 and 32 bit versions. Most all of the owners have come back and remarked that they did not have any issues. My wife has also replaced her company laptops with ones running Vista Business. Since I'm her IT department it must be OK since nobody has come to me with any OS related problems. The only Vista to stay away from is Home Basic..its just too stripped down to be worth the time.

I've had Vista for about 14 months with no problems (that I can attribute to Vista). I've run CS3 and CS4 without incident.

Wow, thanks everyone! I'm so glad I don't have to worry about Vista now. Gosh, when it first came out all I heard were horror stories. Now I know it's okay...I'm off to check computers again.

Same here. I have both 3 & 4 on a Vista system and so far no problems at all.

Any time a new OS comes out (and I've been computing since FORTRAN was king) there are compatibility and upgrade issues. Sometimes it really is the new OS that's at fault, sometimes the glitch is attributed to the new OS when it's really something else.
If you visit user forums for any product (including this one) it's easy to conclude that the software/hardware has serious problems. However, that misses the point that for every user who reports a problem there are an unknown (but probably very large) number of users who have no such problem.
From I've read Vista is now a very stable OS. Now, when Windows 7 comes out...
