Hello all.

I wonder if any others are suffering the same negative situations that I am, with PSE7. I have only recently purchased this program and, at first, all was traveling rather smoothly with it. The past 2-3 days it has adopted the tendency to crash on me. I will have have to restart the program - also about 2-3 times before it gains some stability. It should be noted that I have not introduced any other program installations since getting this program. I am running it on a PC that more than meets what the program requires, and my OS is XP home.

Anyone?

Blessings,
Nathan

Nathan,

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why PSE might crash. Is it the Editor or the Organizer that crashes? Does it crash right when you start or after you've been using it for a while? What do you see on the screen when it crashes?

I am having the same problem with my pse 7 program. Mine crashes in the editor. It usually occurs after I have been in the program for a while. I find that I am saving my work every few minutes so I do not lose too much but it certainly is a problem and should not be happening.

Hi John.

For a minute there, I had a problem with the program crashing when I attempted to call up a plugin from the 'Additional Plugins Folder' that I had set up. More oft than not, the program would crash whenever I called one of the plugins into service, but I defeated that by unchecking the box in 'Preferences'.

All was going well, and then the program just began crashing on me - right after startup. Once it's up & running, I don't seem to have much of an issue. But, then again, I don't know enough about the program, yet, to challenge it with some serious stuff.

Hi,

I had the same problem with PSE7. For about 2-3 days, whenever I opened the Editor (either directly or through the Organizer), it would freeze and the "infamous" message would appear: "Adobe PSE7 is not responding ... The program has to close ... Sorry for the inconvenience." After 3-5 starts, the Editor would finally stabilize, but would crash again next time I opened it. I followed the instructions below by John Rellis and have had no problems since then. Knock on wood!:)

"If the Editor crashes repeatedly or won’t start, often simply deleting its saved preferences fixes the problem. Start PSE to get to the Welcome screen. Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys and click Edit. Keep holding down the keys until you see a window asking “Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?” Click Yes. (Note that this does not delete the Organizer’s settings.)"

Sepiana,

Thanks for including this information. I am about to follow the instructions as soon as I finish this to you.

Sepiana,

The instructional guidance that you provided sure came in quite handy for me. I had been playing around with some files, and doing quite a bit more than I previously had. I shut the program down for a while, as I had some errands to run, and experienced those 'Startup Headaches' when I returned home. I returned to the procedure, that you had outlined for me and - after employing it - was right back on track. It's a shame that some of us has to be so beset by such a thing, but I sure do appreciate that work-a-round.

Nathan,

I'm so happy I was of some help to you. However, all the credit and thanks go to John Rellis. He's the one behind those instructions. You may want to check his page (http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_PSE_7_Welcome); it contains a lot of very helpful information.

I did delete the setting file but that did not solve my problem. It seemed to make it better but then the PSE7 went back to its old ways. I had recently increased my ram so could run PSE 7. I installed the program after installing the ram. I think my problem may be related to that. It is very frustrating because the installation seemed to progress troublefree. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, there could be many different reasons for the Editor crashes, and they can be hard to diagnose. You could try these other troubleshooting steps:
