My current computer is not happy running PSE and PE, so I am planning to purchase a new one. I would like some advice on what options to consider.
I have about $1,500. budgeted for a new computer; but might consider going as high as $2,000.
I'm not looking for name brand recommendations so much; I'm looking for the specs I should be considering; like memory, processor speed, graphics card options, dual vs quad, 32bit vs 64bit, etc.
Should I wait until the new i7 core computers come out; to get the best deals on the current technology?

Mike,
Especially for the Premiere Elements part of your question, I suggest that you also post this question at the Muvipix site, which was formed by some regulars from the Adobe Premiere Elements User forum. I consider Muvipix as primarily a Premiere Elements site that is generally equivalent to Elementsvillage and Photoshopelementsuser for Photoshop Elements.
When you post at muvipix, I recommend that you include what type of video camera you currently use as well as what you know about your future plans for video. High Def video requires a higher spec computer and even the format of High Def video makes a difference.
To start I suggest that you look at this thread -
http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1640
titled Recommended System Specs for Video Editing. Then you can do the free forum registration and start your own thread in the "Computer Issues" subforum.

Thanks for that link. I will go there and post my question.
I'm not even thinking HD; I just use the video option on my Canon PowerShot A630.
I don't intend to switch to video; PSE is challenging enough  But I would like to incorporate video clips in some of my slide shows.

hi Mike,
What software do you use to make your slide shows?
Since your Canon A630 video clips are Motion Jpeg, I think that you could add them in the Photshop Elements slide show editor.
However, since you said you have Premiere Elements, I will mention that I have started adding my Canon Motion Jpeg clips (A620 or A650IS) using Premiere Elements. PE also gave me the capability to trim and edit these video clips.
Now if you currently use ProShow for your slide shows, there are people at muvipix that do use ProShow for the "slides" and Premiere Elements editing for their video.

Yes, and like you, I also use PE to edit and trim then.
