Can you suggest a PE book that has a stong focus on artistic projects (such as those one might find in "Photoshop Creative" magazine)? Most of the books tend to be primarily photo touchup oriented.

Hi there ...
Is there a link to some example of what sort of things are in the magazine as I was unable to find anything ... so I am really not sure what type of techniques it covers.

I know this is not PE BUT...
The Art of Photoshop by Daniel Giordan combines creativity with technique.

Again, not Elements, but "Adobe Photoshop Master Class" by John Paul Caponigro is excellent.

I picked up a couple of copies of Photoshop Creative while I was over in the UK in October and I know what you mean - there are some nice techniques decribed there and although its definitely Photoshop focussed most things described can be done in Elements. I don't believe it's available yet in North America (I have Issues 1 & 2) - you UK guys ahould check it out!

Hi Tony ...
I have just found a new magazine here in the UK ... "Advanced Photoshop" and it is good. Well worth a look if you can get hold of it ...
... I will check out Photoshop Creative next time I am in town ...

Strange that all these good advanced mags seem to be coming out of the UK. Are we not as creative in North America or is it just that I'm not close to any stores that would carry this sort of mag? Was amazed by the selection available in WHS in the UK. Nothing like that in my corner of the backwoods :(

Tony ...
I popped into WH Smiths this morning and found Photoshop Creative ... it is good.
The magazines seem to go in phases ... last year they were all Photography based Photoshop Magazines but over the last six months there seem to have been many more creatives ones ...
Another one I like is Digital Creative Arts ... I buy that when its a mainly photoshop.

Just out of interest, I'm about a third of the way through writing my book "Photoshop Elements Artistry", which concentrates exclusively on artistic/illustrative/creative techniques exclusively for Photoshop Elements users. I'm in the process of finding a publisher for this book, but I'm convinced that there is a demand for it. PSE is very much disregarded when it comes to anything other than correcting tones, colours and red-eye, an it's my ambition and mission to change this.
I produce tutorials for both Digtal Creative Arts and Advanced Photoshop here in the UK, and I must say that it seems the US market is far more concentrated on purely photographic techniques and manipulation. I really do not know why no-one has produced a dedicated PSE magazine... if only I had the money and contacts I would! But that is my thought with the online Photoshop E-book. By the way, did I say what a great lot you are here? :)
Best to all,
Tim.

Well, Photoshop Elements Techniques (this very website) is publishing a newsletter, which looks more and more like a magazine with various subjects being covered each month.

Too right Ray,
And more grist to their mill! I've joined the Forum and signed up after all, so I hope that shows my faith in this place. I was actually following the thread literally and was refering to magazines available in newsagents,
The best to you,
Tim.

I agree that I would like to see more out there. The elements newsletter is fantastic, but let's face it, we're a hungry bunch and would like to see at least one other dedicated magazine. I used to subscribe to 4 painting magazines back when that was my main addiction. The one truly wonderful thing about the PET magazine is NO ADDS!!! My binder won't be full after 6 issues. It's all content and I think that is fantastic and really appreciate that. I just looked at the latest issue of Digital photographer and while there was a big section on new digital cameras, the articles I like to read about photomanipulation, taking better photos etc., consisted of very few pages. In 6 months only those few pages will have any meaning as all the camera info will be outdated (and I just bought a new camera so I don't need to look at that and want something else! :( )

Tim-sounds fabulous! Now get off the forum and get back to work!:D :D
Seriously, I'm sure that the book will be a great addition to any of our libraries!

I eagerly await Tim Shelbourne's new book. I suspect that a large number of people are hungry for just such a book.
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.
FYI, It appears that "Photoshop Creative" magazine has made it to the U.S. I saw a copy in Barnes & Noble. It includes a CD or DVD (not sure which) of exercise material for the articles.

Hi David - what part of the country do you live in? Barnes and Noble must be on my list of things to do - of course after house work, laundry etc. :(

Interesting. That Photoshop Creative mag must be brand new. I googled it and found a guy on ebay selling the November 2005 issue as the premier issue. Wonder if I can find it here. (no B & N for a hundred miles :( )

Kerri ...
You maybe able to buy it online ... but that way you don't get to browse the magazine and sometimes the first few issues are good but then it doesn't continue that way :(

Is the Photoshop Creative Magazine for Elelments? I picked up a copy of Photoshop User (I think that's the name), anyway, the one that NAPP puts out that Scott K. is involved with-and it was waaaay over my head!

Hi Carol ...
Its Photoshop based and one of the more advanced magazines ... so you maybe better giving that one a miss until you have learned a little more :)

You can flip through the first couple of pages of the first issue here:
http://www.pshopcreative.co.uk/sample.html
And Wendy's right - it's pretty advanced and not very helpful for Elements - attempting any of the tutorials is a real challenge. On the other hand it's a good source of ideas and to see what you could do if could ever get it all figured out ;)

Hi, Mary,
The B&N store that I found "Photoshop Creative" magazine in is in Clark, NJ (North Jersey).
Unfortunately it is a Photoshop mag with no P.E. stuff. It is worth reading, though, just to see the possibilities and to spark one's creative juices.

Again, not PE,but... "Creative Photoshop Lighting Techniques" by Barry Huggins is quite good, and so far (with occasional experimentation) there is nothing in the book that can't be handled in PE. Ken

Have that one myself Ken and I love it. Lighting effects are rarely utilized because we don't know what to do with them, and that's why I bought the book. I've done a few things and they've turned out beautifully.

Hello, I am not sure how to ask this, as I have never done this before, but I am getting rather desperate. I recently found (and fell in love with) Photoshop Creative Magazine Issue 7. One of the magazines discussed in this thread.
Not realizing this was indeed a very old issue, I went in search of other issues. Long story short, I found they are hard to find, to say the least! I have subscribed to the magazine, so I don’t miss future issues. I have also managed to procure issues 7-11 (that’s the latest one that came with my subscription, anyway).
Now I am on the hunt, and your posts in this forum got my attention. Maybe I could appeal to your sense of goodwill…or maybe even your sense of greed (if you even have one :-) as I am willing to pay for them. I did say I was desperate!
I really, Really *REALLY* want issues 1-6.
If there is any way, hope or ability for you to get your hands on them ...sell your own copy ...or point me to someone who can sell them to me …I would be ever so appreciative and VERY grateful!
Thank you for your time. Any info would be appreciated.
signed,
