I've been using PSE 6 since shortly after its release. I'm wondering how much of an advantage it would be to upgrade to 7? Are there new features that make a big difference?

Also, let me explain that I do very little editing or special effects work. 95% of what I use PSE for is as an organizer for my images. I really only edit if I have an image that just "needs" some work. Mostly I work on getting it right in camera so I won't have to edit in software.

Thanks for any/all advice/feedback.

PSE 7 fixes a few serious bugs in the PSE 6 Organizer: the inability to handle raw files, a bug in the File > Move command that permanently deleted files, the low-contrast user interface. But there are still many bugs, some serious and some not, that are still there:

As far as Organizing features, there isn't a lot that's new. PSE 7 has a search box that lets you search any of the text fields (keywords, captions, notes, etc.) all at once, which is mildly useful. And it provides supposedly seamless two-way syncing with Photoshop.com, which a few people have found useful; but the syncing and Photoshop.com have many serious bugs, and in my opinion, it's a great idea poorly executed.

You could download the free trial and give it a whirl to see if it's worthwhile for you.

Personally I only upgraded from 6 to 7 because I needed Premiere Elements and the bundle with PSE 7 was a good deal. However, I'm finding PSE7 to be more buggy than PSE6.

I run a Vista Business PC with twin 1680 x 1050 displays. The Organiser occasionally only opens minimised but there are more problems with the Editor. Specifically vertical and horizontal scroll bars go missing in many Windows.

I also find the Print phase a little more convoluted than I remember 6 being. Apart from the obstacle of choosing Print Profiles when the drop down box doesn't show the scroll bars, there now seems to be an extra stage in the process.

Goto Print
Select Printer and Preferences ( I have more than one printer)
Press Print

Now pops up another window (from Windows) asking me to select which printer I want to use - having already done that once.

Maybe its specific to my set up.

IN my opinion I'd say the difference in features between 6 and 7 are not worth the upgrade. If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I upgraded to PSE7 because of the cool features being offered in PSE7.

It allows one to have a membership with photoshop.com<its a free membership providing 2GB of space :) >. After you create an account with photoshop.com, you can enjoy many other things. Coolest amonst which is backup/ sync, Online sharing and inspiration browsers.

1) You can backup and syncronize your photos to you online photoshop.com account. You just need to mark your albums for backup once and PSE will backup all your photos in albums to your online account. So you can access your photos from anywhere by logging in to your online account. Moreover you can syncronize down your photos to any other machine on which PSE is installed.

2)Online Sharing will let you share your photos publically or with your friends in easy steps. that too with some of the cool album sharing templates. I use it to wow my friends ;)

3) PSE7 provides you tutorials for managing and editing your photos in a better way. You just need to click the small pods residing at bottom of the application, it will launch some inspiration tutorials to make your photographs better.

The other thing is ofcourse the color control they have given in the preferences which can be used to make the color of the app as per your need.

I am loving it. I think it is a worth buy
